Fuego Atitlan Eco-Hotel

We stayed two nights at Fuego Atitlán Eco Hotel. The tent was modern and comfortable, with a good bed and an incredible view over Lake Atitlán (especially at sunrise). The manager was helpful, and breakfast served on the terrace in front of our tent was tasty. The setting is peaceful and scenic.

That said, it’s important to know what you’re booking. Despite presenting itself as a wellness hotel, it’s really more of a glamping/hostel experience. If you stay in a yurt (tent), there is only a shared bathroom with two dry toilets and two showers, which you need to walk down the hill to reach. Spiders and scorpions were present not only in the shared bathroom but also inside our tent, which can make using the facilities quite uncomfortable. The tents have one solid wall with a door, but the other sides are fabric panels with large gaps, and there are no mosquito or insect nets. Simple requests, like an extra blanket, are difficult to accommodate (the manager generously provided one from her own supplies). Breakfast is nice but you’re expected to carry everything back down a narrow path to the kitchen. Be mindful that it is located on a hillside and requires carrying all luggage up approximately 100 steps by yourself. The hotel is just far enough outside San Marcos that walking isn’t practical, and tuktuks are needed to get around, often requiring haggling. I don’t have an issue with tented camps in general, I’ve stayed in several across different countries, but this one is a mismatch as it is advertised as a wellness hotel.

The property is absolutely stunning. We stayed in a yurt and had breathtaking views on the lake and volcanoes. Alice and the staff were very friendly and all the necessary amenities were present. The breakfast was very delicious!

Una vista que hace que cualquier subida valga la pena. Amanecer aqui fue el highlight de mi viaje. 20/10. El desayuno deli, la privacidad entre glampings wow. En verdad volveria feliz!!

Todo estuvo perfecto

The view from the terrace over the lake and the vulcanos was amazing. Breakfast directly to your room was fantastic.

It is a bit outside San Marcos and therfore a 20min walk everytime.

La vista lo unico

Es un muy mal hotel, no tienen agua caliente, los baños son super incómodos, la cocina esta llena de bichos, en relacion al precio deja mucho que desear

Las habitaciones son muy bonitas y cómodas, el hostal es muy tranquilo. El hecho que sea alejado y arriba permite tener una vista del lago excepcional.

Queda un poco alejado del centro así que hay que tener en cuenta los gastos en tuktuk para moverse. Es posible ir caminando pero es empinado, así que lo más cómodo es tuktuk. Los eco-baños pueden no ser del agrado de todo el mundo.
