De Poort Cottage

It is very private, away from everything and surrounded by nature! You will have your time to be serene, listening to nature, and relax in the hot tub outside! The lake in front of the cottage, you can swim (you can stand but it does get deep when you go close to the reeds at the back). There were 2 canoes that we could enjoy on the water. The lake is cold so you can do your cold dip than into the hot bath. The braai fireplace is in the house, which allowed the house to get warm and we could still braai when it rained.

Overall we really enjoyed our experience but must mention couple of things for future guests... If the place is locked on your arrival, go around the property to the porch, connect to the Wi-Fi (the owner will give password prior to arrival) to try and contact the owner to arrange someone to open instead of driving into town. Due to the large size of the bath, it does take several hours for the hot tub to get hot. You apparently you can request for the hot tub to be started prior to your arrival (we wish we knew before, so we could get in on arrival day/evening). Beside the complimentary bags of wood you get, request that there are at least 4 extra bags of wood for the hot tub, you only pay for what you use, so you rather have it there instead of running out during your stay.

Stunning cottage right on the water surrounded by nature. The pics don't do it justice! The amenities are very thoughtful, such as extra blankets, tabbard, a wide range of crockery etc., and we had everything we needed. We saw baboons, herons, a badger, many birds of prey and some sunbirds too. We will definitely be back.

It was windy and chilly, unfortunately, but that's a review for Earth, not for De Poort.10/10

I loved the tranquility and quiet nature getaway.

We arrived to find another person in the house. He had booked through another portal. He blew a fuse on the inverter which left the house without power. He was moved to other accommodation. The owner brought a generator until the electricity could be restored the following day. We didn't manage to heat up the hot tub despite all the wood used. We will choose a warmer weekend next time.

Its location being secluded and suitable for pets. We also loved the stoep overlooking the dam.

Everything was great, but we needed to use the oven, which didn’t work. Next time we’ll just bring salad😀

Didn’t know I couldn’t use a hairdryer at the property. We were going to a wedding.

Everything available for cooking and relaxing. Nice hot tub. Comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms.We never saw our 4 legged kids, if not in the dam, running around somewhere!!!

WiFi is a little slow, and could not connect via our VPN to work documents.😁
