The location of the resort was just superb, hanging over a cliff with excellent views and overlooking the tidal bay with fishermen active all day. Had a direct access to the beach from one side and the other path to walk across to the recently renovated Sultan's palace remains with a walk to another beach. The vibe of the place was super relaxed and the rooms big and comfy for our stay.

The bathroom does not have a door so that makes it a little uncomfortable while sharing.

Staff were friendly and helpful within the limits the property could provide. Food was excellent. The new manager is trying to help but faces an uphill battle.

The hotel does not live up to the photos or the price charged. Our initial room (18) was run down with torn curtains (which did not fully cover the windows), the hot water in the shower was barely a dribble and unusable, sink leakjed, towels were threadbare (manager did replace these on request), the cupboard doors did not close (broken), the front door lock needed repair, the bathroom door fitting was falling off the door, the mosquito net had holes in it and the in-room safe could be picked up and moved. The manager moved us to a new room but there remained issues with respect to location vs value as follows. There is an adjoining hotel that plays loud (ear piercing loud) music until 2-3am and a nearby fish processing facility provides the odour of rotting fish when the wind blows from that direction. On top of that the hotel is located on the approach path for the main airport so from 4am there are continuous jets flying overhead. The main pool requires maintenance and the decorative pools are all green from fungus growth.

A well maintained lodge built on a historic location. The pool was perfect, the restaurant served delicious meals and the room was clean, spacious, relaxing and beautiful. The staff was brilliant.

Shower water pressure was low. Power outages happened often. No beer for 1,5 day! ;)

We recently stayed at this wonderful hotel in Zanzibar as a family of six, and it exceeded all our expectations. Each pair in our group had their own individual lodge, which gave us the perfect balance of privacy and comfort. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully designed — a real home away from home. What really made our stay special was the staff. Every single member of the team was warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making our experience exceptional. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The food was another highlight — fresh, delicious, and full of local flavor. From breakfast to dinner, every meal was a delight. We had an amazing time and would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar, whether you're traveling as a couple, with friends, or as a family. We can’t wait to come back!
