Pondok Tetebatu Cottages and Cafe

Lovely views of Mt Rinjani from top room, delicious food and excellent tour with Adam of rice paddies and clean country side. Kind and friendly staff. Adam especially made sure we had everything we needed and helped us organise our next leg to Lembar port.

One bathroom downstairs had a bad smell and had to move. Beware of the stairs going upstairs.

Great location and felt safe. Nothing grand but a good place to call home base. The price is unbeatable as well. Best part is you can’t hear the prayers so you can sleep well.

Breakfast was meh. The bathroom was always humid and super stuffy. No AC either, but slept okay.

Honestly, this is one of those reviews that doesn’t make sense because I have plenty of critiques about the hotel itself, and still, I’m giving it five stars without blinking. Yes, my room at Pondok Tetebatu had a strong smell of ammonia (probably due to the pipes), the bathroom was super basic, and the place is clearly not about comfort or luxury. But somehow… none of it mattered. Because what I experienced here was way beyond accommodation. I had the chance to spend the day with Ucok, who turned out to be not only an amazing guide, but also the cooker at the guesthouse… and honestly? The food was absolutely delicious. Simple, generous, and made with care. But that’s not even the best part. Ucok took me on a day I’ll never forget: we walked through rice fields, visited beautiful waterfalls, and he even brought me to drink a fresh coconut right from the tree. We laughed a lot, shared stories, and I felt truly welcomed and at peace. It was heartfelt, human, real: everything you hope to experience when traveling off the beaten path. I came here expecting very little, and I’m leaving with a full heart and unforgettable memories. So yes, the room could use an upgrade. But for the connection, the beauty of the surroundings, and the warmth of Ucok and his family, this place is an absolute gem. The price is honestly a joke compared to what I received. Don’t come for the amenities come for the experience. And let yourself be surprised. Thank you Ucok. You made Tetebatu magical.

Staff was wonderful and definitely book the ' rice field tour' with Adam, he's the best guide, expert knowledge of the area and all round good guy! We saw monkeys, waterfalls, stunning rice fields, met the locals, ate snake fruit (like lychees), and much more. A wonderful day trip!
