La Embajada Hostel Bacalar

The location is great

It had been raining a lot when I arrived and there were no sheltered common areas from the rain which was pretty miserable. Kinda surprised this place had such a good rating. It was hot, loud, kinda dirty with lots of mosquitos. There are plenty of other places nearby cheaper and better.

Absolutely horrendous to sleep in, the rooms are incredibly hot and most of the fans don’t work or don’t reach you. They seriously need to invest in ac I would go as far as to say it’s a health and safety issue. We had one girl sleeping on the floor because it was so hot. They also advertise a co work space and there isn’t one.

Location was amazing. 10 mins to the public access to the laguna. Many restaurants around. People working there were really nice. Place was clean. WiFi in my dorm sometimes didn’t connect however in common areas it was working good. Breakfast was simple but really nice: coffee, fruits, bread marmalade, peanut butter. Also view was amazing.

Main entrance was looked at night until 8am. It’s not a big deal but as I wanted to do to sunrise tour I had to jump over the fence to get out. Not a really big problem for me, but in dorm I was sleeping I could hear the music from places (restaurants, pubs) around and it was quite loud, until quite late at night. Not enough lockers for each person in a room. Loud fans but really needed at night as it was getting really hot inside.

Great location near Lake Bacalar. The volunteers working at the hostel were very friendly, but their English was very limited - I speak Spanish and they even found it difficult to communicate with me. The breakfast is all you can eat, and was fairly decent.

The 7 bedroom doom was dark and damp. There was one stationary wall fan, which was not sufficient to circulate air in the room, so the door had to be left open at all times, which allowed rain from the tropical storm to enter and soak the entrance to the room. The shower was cold and the bathroom wasn't cleaned at all during my 3 night stay.

It gets way too hot in the dorms, the fans are really loud and don't really help a lot. It was a good 10 degrees hotter inside than outside. Not very pleasant.
