River paradise safari house - cooking class available

Excellent place. The cooking class is interesting and talking to Prashan was very nice. He was also very helpful in organizing the safari in Udawalawe park and our drive to our next destination.

Our host Prashan was exceptional. Such a lovely man with interesting stories and a gentle manner. He organised our safari, cooked us food and created a relaxing stay. His mother Deppa, was just gorgeous and generously shared her cooking knowledge with us.

The property was slightly outside the main hub of Uda Walawe, so once at the property this did limit some options.

The host family are really warm hearted people. We had amazing food and really good time. They were always make sure we are okay or if we need anything. We went on a safari what they arranged for us , they helped with the transportation for our next stop and even more. The cooking class was an amazing experience and the dinner after with fire will be a really nice memory. Thank you for everything ☺️

Great place It’s very rural set on a river and accomodation is simple ( there may be bugs in your room just so you know) The family go above and beyond though with small touches that make this place great Breakfast by the river Dinner by fire Easy access to safari

good water pressure and heat. Cooking class is fun. We learned a lot. Dinner with bonfire under the stars is just wonderful. Breakfast by the river is also nice and relaxing. The host Prashan provided everything we needed. The safari trip was so much fun.

We liked everything!!! As soon as we arrived Prashan (the host) offered us drinks and lunch which he prepared for us to have by the lake with a gorgeous view (photo attached). We had a really lovely afternoon relaxing in the hammock and on the veranda before it started raining (monsoon season!) so we did the same thing just inside the beautifully clean cottage instead. Prashan brought us over an umbrella so we didn’t get wet walking the 25 metres to the kitchen where we rustled up a storm. It was a great cooking class which we couldn’t believe was included in the price given it was 2 hours and the cost of the night was only £15 for 3 of us (the food itself costs 2,500 rupees extra each)🤯 we learned about Sri Lankan food and cooking styles and then sat down and ate with Prashan and it tasted amazing!! Plus there was soo much food, we felt bad that we couldn’t finish it all. We were then taken on a walking safari where we saw lots of different plants and a few animals. Breakfast was great and again, so much food we were stuffed!! All in all, the highlight of our tour around Sri Lanka. Such a special, tranquil and unique experience that we’re so glad we stumbled across. Incredible value for money and there is also the opportunity to swim in the river and go on a safari too which we sadly didn’t get a chance to do. Prashan clearly pours his heart into the business and we had an absolutely amazing time - thank you!

Absolutely nothing!! Just incredible!! We told Prashan he needs to start charging more haha. The only hiccup we did have was when the taxi we arrived in couldn’t quite make it to the property due to the dirt track being a bit too bumpy but Prashan didn’t hesitate to call his friend with a Jeep who kindly took us the last 200 metres!

I stayed one night here in order to visit the safari, which Prashan helpfully organised! He is very kind & helpful, good communication before I arrived. The location is very rural, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing just something to keep in mind when booking. You are in the forest so expect bugs and some wildlife! The bed was clean & good air con.

It was an amazing experience! We loved it and would stay longer if possible 🙏✨

Prashan was amazingly helpful and the cooking class was fantastic, we had a feast. We had a fabulous breakfast by the river in the morning.

Unfortunately, we had a very bad monsoon night and the power cut out. Prashan worked tirelessly to fix this, but sadly wasn't able to and we had to cut our stay from 2 nights to 1. Prashan still gave us the cooking class, with lanterns lighting up the area, alongside beautiful fireflies. The following morning he did not expect any payment, and was so helpful in getting us to a new place. The main issue was no air con, due to the power cut.
