"Not a 4 star spa hotel"

3.0

Location, Views, food in restaurant for dinner was good and servers great. Breakfast also ok.

Rutland Hall Hotel boasts a location to die for, with absolutely stunning views. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The interiors completely undermine the natural beauty outside and fail to deliver anything close to a luxury or 4‑star experience. The décor throughout the buildings feels dated and poorly thought out, with clashing colours and a lack of cohesion. Every corridor and room is dominated by highly visible fire extinguishers. While I fully appreciate safety requirements, there are far more discreet ways of integrating them without destroying the ambience. Reception staff appeared busy and came across as rushed, which set the tone on arrival. The hotel seems to have only one restaurant, which feels far more like a pub or clubhouse than a hotel restaurant. Outdoor seating consisted of outdated, uncomfortable plastic garden furniture. We sat for a light lunch after arrival. Inside, the atmosphere was chaotic, with too many waiters and no clear system—staff seemed unsure of who was doing what. Food was average at best and certainly not reflective of a high-end venue. Basic comforts such as pillows were also missing. Dinner was a family arrangement and the food served here was great. The biggest disappointment was the so-called spa, which the hotel heavily promotes. Calling this a spa is misleading. It consists of a pool, two very small rooms (sauna and steam room), and little else. There is no sense of serenity or luxury. Cold showers did not work, floors were dirty, cobwebs were visible in corners, and windows were covered in limescale. The steam room had a distinctly mouldy smell, and there was no hose to rinse the seating for hygiene. I raised concerns with staff about cleanliness and the fact that guests were entering the pool straight from the sauna without option to shower down. The response was dismissive and rude, with a comment that chlorine would “kill the bacteria.

"Nice stay, but disappointed in the Lake View room option."

6.0

Lovely location and the hotel was clean and tidy.

We booked a Lake View room at additional cost… but the lake was barely visible and the ground floor room was very overlooked. Restaurant was lovely but service was slow. Management were busy talking.

"Wonderful says it all."

10.0

Wonderful hotel in wonderful location overlooking Rutland Water set in lovely grounds. Ask for room with view over the lake if you can afford it. Well worth it.

There are lots of stairs as it's built on a hill. There are lifts but still a few steps to room. No problem if able-bodied.

"Good"

6.0

Amazing location, breakfast was plentiful & varied - restaurant food was excellent as was the view from our suite.

Unfortunately during our stay there was a wedding function on and between midnight & almost 3am guests were talking in the corridors/outside & doors were constantly opening & closing.

"Really low quality"

2.0

Very poor service quality - They asked me to fill pre-registration form the day before, and then when I arrived they readily-admitted that they ignore those pre-registration forms (=needless waste of my time) - When we booked (and again in multiple messages) we asked for a twin bed setup, but it was a King - and their initial reaction was a dismissive "sorry we don't have any twin rooms any more" ... and they agreed to change the bedding only after we complained - and then they completely ignored the pre-agreed time to come to the room to swap the bedding / instead just came when it suited them (= when we needed to change clothes to leave for an external function) Breakfast was very average, more like a low-cost B&B rather than high-price hotel

"Pleasant stay, spoilt by aggressive receptionist and tight hotel!"

7.0

Swimming pool and spa Room Evening meal

Receptionist was unpleasant. Credit card on booking in December had expired and reception was unpleasant and aggressive in sorting out. Told was a special 80th Birthday present, and was assured of being treated special. Hotel managed a postcard!
