"Very good"

The location and the layout of the interior of the property.

It was very hard to find and we had to go to the nearest pub to get locations. Tried ringing and messaging owner and had no answer but lucky found the place.

"Lovely for one night."

7.0

First impressions of the Vault were great. It’s a charming little space in a beautiful village. Well equipped kitchen and nice and spacious. Underfloor heating was a nice welcome addition.

Not really a complaint as it didn’t dampen our stay in any way, but certain areas could have been a bit cleaner. There were cobwebs on the wall in the bathroom, the taps were grimy, there were crisps on the floor and under the sofa cushions. I think whoever cleans the place just needs to pay a little more attention to the little details. Also the sofas were really uncomfortable. After a fabulous afternoon at Haddon Hall and a meal at the Druid Inn (**highly recommend) we were tired and wanted to flop in front of the telly, but it was impossible to get comfy on either sofa. And the sofa bed wasn’t super pleasant.

I didn’t stay!

If you would like to stay in a holiday property that has not been cleaned and turned around to an acceptable standard then the Vault is for you! Acceptable being a clean toilet without faeces stains, a clean fridge without a rancid smell and mould and hygienic work surfaces devoid of coffee cup stains, general stains and crumbs! The above, the landlord tells me were “petty and ridiculous expectations”. Personally, myself and my elderly mother and family expect these to be basic expectations for any of our holiday stays. Arriving at the property on the evening, as we had been to Chatsworth, I rang the landlord immediately to say that we couldn’t use the fridge as it was not acceptable! The stench stunk the whole room out! There was liquid, stains and mould. His response to us, as paying customers was to clean it ourselves as there was cleaning equipment under the sink! I declined this offer as I don’t expect to clean a cottage I’ve paid for. He later said in a message our request to have the accommodation cleaned by him was trivial. He said he would come but having found other dirty surfaces and dirty toilet with faeces marks I rang to say we were leaving. Wayne verbally agreed to refund the cost of the stay which he then reneged on, in his very discourteous messages on the Monday. He said ‘we must have had another reason to leave!’ No his property was unclean and unhygienic! At further inconvenience I had to drive 2 hours home with my elderly mum who refused to stay in the property any longer! We all questioned the cleanliness of the rest of the property, especially the bedding. Wayne even had the audacity in a message to say that we’d actually got into the bed as the bed covers had moved and the pillows were ruffled. I’d lifted up the duvet as I wasn’t sure whether it was a duvet of sheet! We were only in the property 20 mins and he knew that! We hadn’t even taken our coats off or brought in our bags!

The stay was lovely, the vault was very homely, clean and in a great place, the pub down the road (red lion) was great, had a very warm welcome from everyone in there. Will be booking it again for a longer stay.

"Beautiful old building, what a lovely experience."

10.0

It was self catering

We parked in the designated spot as stated in the email but a man told us we had blocked him in and suggested we parked in the middle which made no sense because that would have blocked everyone in. We left plenty of room for the other car even parking a little on the road but he still felt we had blocked him in. He had at least a meter distance in front and behind him.

"Bad"

1.0

The property looked beautiful from the outside.

There was no heating, couldn't get in touch with the owner for 3 hours. My wife and I spend hours upon hours trying to get the heating working. The neighbours had no joy and stated that this is a common theme and guests never can get in contact with the owners. I had 2 babies one was 2 weeks old. The son of the owner (who was on a sun lounger in America )came around and transferred us upstairs to see if it was warmer up there. It wasn't. We all had to sleep on the floor with blankets in the living room as a family. I would say if you hate your family then stop here. It was the worst experience of any accommodation i have stayed in, in my life. Please avoid. The owner refuses to give any compensation and answer the phone.

"Perfect country location"

9.0

We travelled as two friends taking part in a charity walk from the nearby campsite so the location was perfect. As others have said it is not Bakewell but that wasn’t an issue. Property owner was very responsive to queries. We found both beds comfy, despite initial reservations about the sofa bed & the under floor heating was nice. There was plenty of room for us & all our walking things. Kitchen was well equipped. Reading other reviews I think changes have been made, there’s a shelf in the toilet, there’s a draw in the utility labelled with ‘bedding’ so this could be found. I took my own pillow so I knew I’d be comfy. The property was clean & the porch a bonus. We went in one of the pubs which was dog friendly & well priced. We didn’t eat but the food looked lovely.

As others have said the shower is strange but we made it work
