Coral Bay Zanzibar

The location is great and it would be a nice place to spend a few days if they would think ahead. Everything was ok until...

... the electricity was gone in the middle of the first night. The guy told us it may happen sometimes and gave us a torch just in case... but noone mentioned that without power akso the water pumps did not work . Not only we couldn't charge phones (and computor-my husband had to do some work) and there was no internet but we also couldn't take a shower or (that's the worst) flush the toilet. So we went away and when we were back the situation was still the same. There are 3 rooms and only 2 were occupied at the time. The other room has been cleaned (we've actually seen the cleaning lady doing it), but noone even entered ours... noone thought of bringing some water and flush the toilet, sweep the floor or at least empty the bin. They didn't think of offering us a bottle of water just to freshen up or something. So basically when booking anywhere on Zanzibar you better check if they have generators!

There is a tone of seaweed on the beach, they have not cleaned for months !!! You cannot actually swim in front of the hotel, you have to go to another part of the beach were they clean up. Another big issue is the electricity. The owner is not paying for it and neither for someone to clean the beach, he is very cheap from this point of view.

Place was just perfect, prompt service and friendly staff. It seems like your own villa by the sea, only three rooms.

We had a wonderful stay at Coral Bay. Beautiful location, Staff extremely friendly , helpful and accommodating. It felt like a home away from home. I would highly recommend booking at Coral Bay. The breakfast was the highlight of our day . plenty and delicious. fresh fruits, omelets, pancakes and more.

We did have a few electricity issues and air-conditioner not working so this was abit of a problem. Clean towels everyday would also be better and there was no coffee in the rooms only tea.

Without the staff, my stay would have been a complete disaster, but at this point, I can only describe it as utter disappointment.

After checking in, it was found that the AC in my room wasn't working. The staff called a technician who arrived four hours later but couldn't fix it because the AC required a stabilizer, which couldn't be purchased due to a closed store. I was advised to use a fan despite the night temperature being 29C (84.2F). I had no choice but to cope with the situation. At around 1:00 AM, I woke up drenched in sweat as the building experienced a power outage. Despite alerting the staff at 6:00 AM, nothing was done until I complained, and a backup generator was eventually started, but it kept shutting down due to insufficient fuel and inability to support room ACs. Repairs for my room's AC were halted, leaving the building without power for two consecutive nights. While fans could be operated during the second night, the generator failed again around 1:00 AM, making the room uncomfortable for sleep. Furthermore, the lack of power caused water pressure issues, making it impossible to shower or wash my face. When I had to leave at 4:00 AM, I used my phone's flashlight due to complete darkness caused by the power outage. The staff informed me that the generator stopped due to fuel depletion when I asked. Additionally, although the building and rooms in the photos were accurate, the ocean and beach views were not as portrayed. The water only reaches the beach during high tide from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and very early in the morning. Outside of those times, you're looking at the dry ocean floor and a lot of seaweed.

Amazing location, amazing facilities and amazing staff! It is a little paradise on earth.

The prices of the restaurant were really high.
