Kaladwas Lal Haveli - A Heritage Boutique Hotel

Without any doubt, the property is a true jewel. It felt like we were transported 300 years back in time; the owners have put great effort in preserving the antique charme of the place while providing all modern comfort. Besides the spacious and comfy rooms, there is a lot of communal space to sit and chill, including a rooftop restaurant (which we ended up having dinner every night of our stay, because the food was excellent). The owner personally looked after our well-being and was alwas helpful in providing advice and arranging transportation and activities. Overall, our stay felt very cozy and almost like being hosted by a caring family.

Just very minor issues. Knowing we would arrive rather late, we relied on the late check-in offered, but initially found the door of the property closed and dark. After a while of knocking, we were let in, though. Communication with the service staff was sometimes slightly tedious, as their knowledge of English was a bit limited (and our knowledge of Hindi non-existing). On the other hand, as indicated above, everybody was always super friendly and helpful, and understanding was always reached.

Beautiful Haveli. You feel like you’d want to live there. Large and comfortable room. Great restaurant.

A very expensive stay. For that price, you would expect somewhat professional service that we didn’t get. Two days in a row, we couldn’t have breakfast because the staff was not awake! On checkout day, there was nobody at the reception to take our payment. This turned in to a mess with bank transfer etc. Not what you expect when you pay more than the price of a 5 star hotel. The staff hardly speaks English.

Take ear plugs with you. the old city of Udaipur can be very loud.

Location was right in the middle of everything. Food at the restaurant was superb. Accommodations were unique and comfortable. Service is impeccable, we were welcomed so graciously into the city.

It was a beautiful property so much care and so well maintained. The love & care the family have put into it was apparent.

Nothing! The only suggestion is to review the price - it was very high for typical properties of this standard.

Was a very fun place to stay in the heart of old Udaipur. Was very reasonable price compared to other luxury accommodations in the area. Breakfast and chai on the rooftop was always a great start to the day.

Sometimes getting in late at night was a bit difficult to coordinate with the front desk since they lock up in the eve, but the staff did everything they could do make sure we were taken care of and could get in.

I really wanted to love this place. It is an old, historic building, beautifully refurbished, tasteful, but relatively small. The initial impression was of a high standard. The room was attractive, if a bit small. There is a lovely rooftop eating area.

However, the whole hotel is very dark inside, we had a very small bedroom, our bedhead rested against an outside window so we had street noise all night. There was constant water pump noise from early morning on. I had to search to find a member of staff to request shower gel/ shampoos ( which weren't replenished, nor bed made, even though I asked whether I should leave the key ) . Staff did not speak much English so there was little interaction ( despite us trying to engage). On day one, my husband's breakfast choice was not available, then day two we were told there were no eggs left (so that ruled out most choices) and all shops were closed so they couldn't buy eggs ( not true, everything was open! ) It was just bizarre. The whole experience was so disappointing as we paid more for this stay than our " average ". We have stayed in all levels of accommodation in India but in this case, sadly, we were left feeling that this Haveli didn't deliver a good price/ expectation/ service ratio. We moved to another Haveli, less expensive , with spectacular lake views, fab service and food, and lovely staff.
