"Our stay was marred by disruptive noise, lack of privacy, and an unwelcoming host, making it an overall disappointing ex"

5.0

Our stay at Montpellier had many highlights. The location was perfect, just outside of town, offering a peaceful retreat. The accommodation provided ample space, and parking for our trailer was easy and convenient. The farm and its surroundings were beautiful, adding to the charm of the stay. However, our experience was disrupted by frequent noise from a gravel farm road, likely used by staff. The disturbances, especially late at night and early in the morning, impacted our rest.

Noise Disturbances: The units were situated next to staff quarters, leading to significant disruptions from staff activities. As early as 6:30 AM, staff members were frequently opening and closing doors and engaging in prolonged conversations, creating a disruptive environment that disturbed our rest. Additionally, the constant noise from cars driving up and down near the units further exacerbated the disturbance, contributing to an overall lack of peace and quiet throughout our stay. Unwelcoming Host Experience: Upon arriving at the property around 5:30 PM, we felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. The hosts conveyed a sense of inconvenience, making it seem as though our short overnight stay was a hassle to accommodate. They expressed surprise at receiving our last-minute booking, stating they typically do not accept such reservations. Overall, the hosts were unfriendly, contributing to an unpleasant start to our stay.

"Charming Cottage in a Beautiful Setting, but Needs Some TLC"

5.0

The surroundings were beautiful, and the wine estate added to the charm. The cottage itself was very cute and offered plenty of space, but it could use some TLC to bring it up to its full potential.

The cottage had a charming rustic feel, but it felt a bit run down in areas. When I tried to open the curtains, the rail fell off completely, including the end brackets. There was a large industrial standing fan in the room, but it was so noisy that it wasn’t usable, it also took up most of the walking space. The shower had spiders, and the grout had a fungal vibe going on, which made me feel like I needed to wear flip-flops. The couches were quite worn, and the beautiful Persian rug was filthy—it could use a deep, thorough clean. There was a mosquito net holder, but no net—I’d recommend adding one for comfort. I would also add better signage to and from the cottage because at night it is not too great, also consider putting some solar lights at the cottages as well. Lastly, the water pressure was almost nonexistent. I completely understand that the cottage is meant to have a rustic charm, but cleanliness and basic upkeep would make a big difference without taking away from the character of the space.

Love this place the outside is beautiful and a restful place to visit. We always stay in the manor house as the best accomodation is there. Its not a modernised place which is why we love it, but some may find it a bit too unwesternised. Its a 300 year old wine farm that doesn't try hard to sell itself as something it isn't but having been coming to Capetown for over 30 years, this is my favourite place. The Tulbagh area isn't on the main tourist drag but there is enough here of interest wine farms, olive, fruit farm in Wolsley (R5 a kilo for whatever is in season, take your own bag), plenty places close by for some adventures.

"Wonderful grounds and rooms."

10.0

A wonderful location and friendly staff with good size and comfortable rooms. The pinot noir cap classique was delicious.

My preference would be to turn the bath into a shower cubicle. The bath is an attractive feature but a shower is more practical.

"beautiful but disappointing."

4.0

Staff was very friendly and took very good care of us in regards to the accommodation itself, but not in regards to the music that was played in the morning.

The Music was incredibly disturbing. Multiple other guests expressed their dislike for the loud music and left, but the staff did not pat attention to our request to putt the music softer. It was also not instrumental music but a very disturbing artist that really a small population of visitors would listen to. They are going to lose a lot of customers due to the music. Rather let us just enjoy the beautiful garden and birds.
