Hotel Buenavista Bacalar Jungle Experience

It is Lovey rustic and tranquil. Wifi The wifi works, it cut out momentarily a couple of times and is a little slow but works. Showers The rooms are peaceful and the view from your bed is pretty and private and makes you feel like you’re in a fancy tree house. I spent hours just contemplating life on the hammock listening to the rain and jungle sounds. The rooms are spacious and the showers have warm water. Staff Staff were friendly. Tip If your AC doesn’t work, just ask and they’ll flick a switch in reception. In the restaurant lounge area, put the fan on to keep mosquitoes away. You’re in the jungle, take bug spray and snacks.

Location It is not in Bacalar town, it is in Buenavista 25 mins drive away. Buenavista is in Bacalar province. Tours that pick up from Bacalar will not pick you up from here. Outside the ADO bus stop in Bacalar you can hail any of the mini buses and share a ride to the hotel. My minibus dropped me very close to the hotel, about 3 min walk away. I did Bacalar to Buenavista for MX35 - taxis wanted to charge MX450 from Bacalar to Buenavista and MX600 return. It’s quite a walk from the hotel to the high way to hail a minibus. The food was just ok. The pool was murky. Had it been clean (I don’t mean free of leaves, we are in the jungle, I can handle that) I would have stayed longer. But without a nice pool to cool off in, the heat and humidity were just too much. I think if the pool was looked after more and looked like the photos, people would stay longer and recommend the place. The bathrooms wooden taps were rotten and need replacing, I didn’t want to touch it or use the water that came out from it.

Amazing place for chill and relax in the middle of jungle. Seriously unbelievable place. The road to the hotel does not reveal the beauty of it, but it’s worth to drive through. Fully recommend.

The staff were friendly and breakfast included in the prices. The rooms are comfy and pretty.

Although the staff were friendly, we did not find it properly hospitable considering how much we paid for our stay. The pool was not cleaned or maintained regularly. Our room also flooded and we had to ask to be taken to another one, otherwise they would have only mopped the flood that also wet our stuff -- due to this we were given a free dinner. I recommend this for a quick night stay, however not a long stay.

The Bacalar Lagoon on walking distance. The best beach in the world.

* Misleading locations and services * Bad service: no answering of the phone, no people at reception, bad attitude at reception, lack of basic ingredients at the restaurant, late night maintenance works (10pm), lack of toiletries

The scenery of the property was beautiful.

This property did not feel like a good value for the money. The pool was not cleaned our entire stay and was full of leaves. Also the water in the pool was stagnant and not moving which is a breading area for bacteria with the warm climate. We were not able to use the pool once while we were there. The lagoon is not accessible from the property and is a 5 minute walk to an area that is very busy. The area for yoga was located in top of one of the buildings, which offered a nice view of the tree tops but was not a great space for yoga.

Good place to relax. We even saw some spider monkeys in the trees.

Mosquitoes are a big issue, but going to a jungle hut I guess you just need to be prepared for it. You need to register upfront for the yoga classes or else they are canceled.

Staff were understanding though couldn't help much with our refund request, neither in full nor partially; we got a good will voucher from Booking for the inconvenience.

Our main issue was around the view of the hotel, we thought we had direct access to the lake as it seemed from the pictures. Though there's no direct access to the water. We were staying there only two nights, so we picked a different property instead. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get any refund, yet happy we could enjoy fully the Bacalar experience elsewhere with kayak and bikes included (definitely worth it!).
