Warm hospitality, lions can be heard in the distance, quiet, tastefully decorated, only an hour and a half from Cape Town.

The pillows in the bedroom were a little flat - literally the only criticism I would have.

The flies were a deterrant , so many and the fan position was not ideal. Ceiling fan would be good.We also had water issues. Besides these two points we enjoyed the cottage and the location. Thanks

Riaan was always doing whatever he could to make our stay the most enjoyable it could. We loved the animal encounter

Absolutely amazing. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed into this little corner of paradise by Riann we knew we had made the right decision. The Swallows Rest is a lovely cottage, with great views, in a fabulous location. The sound of lions roaring just behind the house only added to the enjoyment. The outdoor shower and wood-fired hot tub just completed the full package. We loved having our own space, cooking our own meals in this magnificent setting. When we had difficulty lighting the wood for the hot tub and contacted Riann he had lighters and kindling delivered within minutes. You couldn’t ask for a more responsive host. We also took the opportunity to pre-book the animal encounter and were superbly looked after by Shané. Her understanding of the animal welfare, behaviours, psychology and conservation gave us an extraordinary insight into the animals in her care. We had the opportunity to get up close with zebra, caracal, cheetahs, ostriches and an albino porcupine and to see lions, spotted hyena and meerkats - an experience I will never forget. We just wished that we had booked a longer stay!

The cottages are very nice on the inside and beautifully designed. Beautiful farm with view over the river, heard the lions roar at night and refreshing swims in the dam! The scenery is amazing and it's a perfect getaway to escape the busy city life.

Only the main house has a pool, so we swam in the dam. Nothing wrong with that, it was nice and cool water, but it was quite murky/muddy water. There is no air-conditioning, so it can get hot inside. The fans worked though!

Love the location and a great spot for a large group. the kitchen is well stocked and the beds are very comfy. the swimming pool was a game changer.

The only downside was the lack of airflow and it was VERY hot when we were there. The hot tub was also green and not very appetising.

Lovely set up, with a unique interior, very clean and appreciated that the house was fully equipped. Definitely can recommend this for a group or a bigger family to enjoy a weekend away.

Maybe consider having a small shop with main groceries, bread, farm milk, eggs and drinks for those who are forgettable and not organized. 😊
