Kithaya Ella

Simple, small room. Kind host. I arrived after 6 pm and unfortunately there were no dinner, nor breakfast. Anyway it’s close to the Pekoe Trail.

I got a comfortable room. I have stayed for one night. I love the location of the place. But the location is somewhat outside from the busy Ella town. But anyone can work to Ella through railway track. As a low budget traveller, the place is perfect. The staff is very kind and supportive. They supported me before the arrival, during my stay and after the check out. Don't need to worry to select this place for your stay. Thank you.

The staff is friendly. Room has a fan and warm water. Located close to Kithalella train station and the hiking track to Ella Rock. Nice breakfast room, but seems one would get more use out of the space if it were decorated and used as a communal hangout area.

The toilet in our bathroom was leaking, causing for the floor to be constantly wet and having to clean and dry it. I found this very uncomfortable. I was asked to leave the room key so they could fix it, but they didn’t. Yet I was charged full price and not really compensated, expect for frying my daughter and myself an egg on the day of our departure (we stayed here 3 nights). The room has no mosquito net and there definitely are mosquitoes. There was a weird smell of moth balls which gave me a headache, but they said it was from paint, cause they were painting the back of the place. Room has thin carpet, but somehow doubt they have a vacuum cleaner and it’s a bit dirty. Had the superior single room for me and my 1 year old with double bed, but not clear what the superior refers to. Room is very small and hard to find a spot to open our suitcase. There is a balcony which could be nice once it is in use, but now it was constantly being kept wet and had some ply board behind the door to stop guest from accessing it. Weren’t able to really give any recommendations of places to eat or see in the neighborhood. Only do Western Breakfast at an additional charge and no Sri Lankan breakfast. Seems the father of the owner was the host during our stay, who is very friendly, but doesn’t speak English that well.

Good place. The facilities are Ok with the paid price. Recommend for the people who visit Ella.

During my stay, I found the property to be quite pleasant, and the location was absolutely ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat and easy access to hiking trails, including Ella Rock. The proximity to the train station is an added bonus for those planning to explore the area. The host was exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and responsive, offering helpful recommendations for local attractions. The room was comfortable and the property seemed well-maintained. As for the breakfast, it was simple but sufficient, and I did not expect additional services, as it was clearly indicated as a basic offering. The owner is very understanding and seemed genuinely concerned about addressing any guest concerns. Because they supported me to finding a vehicle to my next stay with a friendly budget. Overall, I found this place to be a peaceful, budget-friendly option with a lot of potential once some minor improvements are made.

They offer the breakfast according to their preference. That also healthy and tasty breakfast. But if we ask for something they will prepare it. Therefore be aware to order your preference earlier.

Ella is overrun by tourists, therefore I decided to stay in Kital Ella for a quieter less-touristy experience. I had a simple but very comfortable room with a huge window. It had heavy curtains and I could get the room completely dark. It was also very quiet. There was hot water with good pressure in the shower. Breakfast was basic but satisfactory. A big shout-out to Umesh who was friendly and helpful.

The easiest and quickest way to get to Ella is to walk along the railway line. Obviously, not every guest is willing and/or able to take this shortcut. Other guests complained about the lack of a mosquito net but, at least at this time of the year, it was not necessary. Cash only.
