Clean room, nice location close to the railway station

The father who was in charge of the accommodation was very helpful. I cannot forget his help to find out my lost mobile phone which I left in the three Wheeler accidentally. I was terribly upset after losing the expensive phone and I had to fly on the following day. Thank you father.

Nice enough place, my room overlooked the local prison! Catholic institution, next to the local cathedral which I visited. They claim to be helping the poor, in which case I support them!

The location - very close to bus, train and the fort

The reception was unmanned so without a local phone I wouldve had a real problem. Also, google maps was taking me up a parallel street and there is no signage. Had to ask people around. It is part of the church next door.

Whether you arrive by train or bus, Carita's Rest is easy to find, since it is right next to the Catholic Cathedral, which -- situated on a hill -- is visible (and identifiable) from just about anywhere, and just a few minutes' (uphill!) walk from the transport centres. It's quite a beautiful setting, and many of the rooms offer great views (including into the courtyard of the local prison, which is something you don't see every day). As everyone who writes a review points out, Carita's Rest is owned and operated by the Church, and all profits go to helping the poor and disadvantaged in the district. The priest in charge, Father Michael, is friendly and skilled at English conversation, and will happily tell you about their charity work as he serves you complimentary tea and coffee in the communal dining room. There is a major shopping area nearby, and the entrance to the Fort town is only minutes away, so it is an ideal spot for your base to visit the best of Galle. We were delighted with our choice of accommodation in this city, and would recommend it unreservedly.

There are only cold showers in the private rooms... of course, in the Sri Lankan climate this might be considered a plus!

Close to the church. Location was good. Felt very safe and private. It was good to have the kitchen area with fridge to prepare small breakfast. The balcony was a lovely place to sit, eat, relax. The room was clean and very comfortable. Staff were friendly. Thank you so much.
