Tartaruga Beach Unawatuna

Location, private beach and friendly staff

We reserved the double economic room which was next to the staff quarter, the kitchen and the public bathroom and therefore it was extremely loud. They started cleaning at 4am which made us wake up every day. The walls were paper thin which meant we could hear literally everything from the other room. On Sunday evening there was a party next door and the loud music went on until midnight. These all made impossible to rest and sleep. The photos don’t resemble the actual conditions especially the bathroom. The hotel seems to be a bit ran down. The breakfast was poor and most probably I’ve got salmonella from the egg. I could never recommend this hotel to anyone and definitely not for this price.

Had to return at least 5 sets of pillows as they were dirty- they had pillow protectors on them and it was them that were dirty and moldy. Breakfast was good but little variation, the same four dishes ,on alternate days.. The main restaurant was not open at night.- not everyone wants to sit on the beach.

Great hotel, more expensive than most others in the area but still worth the money. Very nice and modern rooms, great breakfast with everything you want, both intermational and local. Staff was so helpful and kind. Nice clean pool and towels for pool. Note that the beach just in front of hotel is rough so you need to move a few 100m to get to calm waters if you have children.
