"Disappointing, could have such potential."

1.0

Our first impression driving down the long driveway was that the cottage looked charming.

Upon closer inspection it was tired out front with a water bottle perched on the bridge and an empty cigarette packet on the chair on the front porch. The porch was covered pebbles and grass which then made it difficult to enter without tramping in the stones & Grass. We decided to sweep the entrance ourselves so that we didn’t slip on the pebbles when we were entering and exciting the front door.We were given instructions by the owner In a written message ( the grammar was very broken) to use the slippers provided inside. They did not look clean or sanitised, so we chose not to use them. The cottage smelt damp and musty. We proceeded to our bedrooms, and as we had opted to use the upstairs rooms we began to ascend and could see that the steps were extremely steep and some were unsafe with large cracks across them. We made the decision not to carry our cases up due to feeling unsafe on the stairs. Once in our room we discovered DEAD FLIES on one of pillows, and dust along the edge of the bed head. Photos attached.2 of the other bedrooms downstairs had floor mat that were clearly trip hazards and the other couples expressed their concern.Again with the message from the owner we were advised upon exit that the gas bottle was to be turned off, we discovered that clearly this did not occur from the previous guests stay ;or checked by the cleaners,as it was on,an extreme hazard for a gas bottle to be positioned in an enclosed space in a house when it should be only used for outdoor purposes. As it was a cold day we decided to make a fire. Well to our surprise the wood fire had not been cleaned and had a large amount of ash in it. To further complicate there was no kindling or wood left in the basket and 2 Empty firefighter boxes on the shelf. The artificial gas fire was connected to a power board sitting on top of the mantle piece with several other cords connected to it. We also found the hairdryer left on the mantle piece. This is also a safety issue.

"OK for people that love old style house."

7.0

The location is about 20 mins drive from lake Tekapo. The house gave the impression like a very old house located in the rural area, a wooden house with vintage design and still using traditional wood fired stove. Pretty interesting experience for us.

Ambience is not really clean. There are some electric warm blankets on the beds but most of them don't work at all. There is a room with broken lamp.

"READ REVIEWS BEFORE YOU BOOK! Multiple comments about the same things. If you are not too fussy it’s a fine old farmhous"

5.0

The stone building and quiet location, great shower.

Cobwebs everywhere. Very explicit instructions regarding what was ok eg. MUST wear slippers/no shoes inside. It is a farmhouse for goodness sake! Bad electrical - one room downstairs had no lighting and not even bedside lamps, kitchen was old and tired and bathroom tiles very slippery. Building needs urgent renovation and repair.
