"Disappointing Stay – Not Up to Marriott Standards"

6.0

We recently stayed at this property and, unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations—particularly considering it was booked through Marriott. Location: The location was concerning. It’s situated directly across from a federal prison, above a Subway line, and just half a block from a busy train line. There’s also a Taco Bell Cantina next door that requires armed security at night, which felt unsettling. Cleanliness & Condition: The building itself is quite old, and that’s noticeable in the condition of the common areas. Both the lobby and rooftop had a strong musty, basement-like odor that we found overpowering and unpleasant. These spaces have potential but appear neglected. Daily cleaning does not seem to happen—the floors were visibly dirty during our stay. Service: Check-out is at 11 a.m., and disappointingly, a Sonder staff member knocked on our door at 10:55 a.m. to rush us out, stating that the next guests were arriving. The interaction felt unnecessarily abrupt and unprofessional. The Positives: On a more positive note, the 2-bedroom unit itself was comfortable and well-equipped. The additional space was appreciated and, under different circumstances, could have made for a nice stay. That said, this property simply doesn’t align with the quality or standards typically associated with the Marriott brand. I would recommend doing further research before booking.

"A very convenient location with a good choice of room sizes"

6.0

Very convenient location easy to get everywhere we wanted

The condition of the common parts and lift are poor. The room condition is not what the photographs suggested. There was a lack of staff support. A rather soulless experience with no service staff presence.

"Nice concept for a girls getaway but didn’t meet expectations"

6.0

We went with a group of four girlfriends. We wanted a place where we’d have space to all hang out together, so this seemed like it would fit the bill. The biggest pro was the location, it was just a couple of blocks from the Jackson station on the blue line, so easy to get to for those who flew in to O’hare. We took one Lyft when we went to the Drake for tea, otherwise we walked everywhere. The coffee shop on the corner, Hero, was a great spot for breakfast. Walking to a local bookstore on Saturday, we also stumbled on the Printer’s Row farmers market which had great vendors. We had a 4 bedroom/3 bath unit with was good for 4 people. Two bedrooms each had an en-suite bath and the the other two shared a bath. The beds were comfy with nice linens, and we didn’t have any of the issues with bathroom cleanliness that are mentioned. The kitchen cabinets could have used a good wipe down, though. We initially had some issues using the code for the front door and had to call to get it reset. The code is needed 24 hours; there’s no front desk. We ended up being given a new code for the front door and the the original one still worked on our unit. There’s a communal luggage storage room with its own code. Some of our group used it to drop off luggage after arriving early in the morning. We were honestly hesitant to use it to leave our luggage the day we departed, given our issues with the front door code on arrival. We messaged the staff in the app and they said the front foot code would work all day for our departure. After the off-site luggage storage place we booked turned out to be closed, we went back and did leave our bags for the day and fortunately our code still worked when we went back in the afternoon. The seating the unit was not suitable for 4 people to hang out. The couch really only fit two if you wanted any personal space. 3 would have been tight. We had to pull the dining chairs over for more seating. We made it work but it wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped. We did not have any issues with the temperature, but the mini splits were loud (on the last night I hardly slept because of it) and it one of the rooms it was directly over the bed, and there was a light shining down from it. In some of the rooms, there was no separate switch or pull cord for the light on the ceiling fan, so it was not possible to have the light off and the fan running. I’m honestly not sure I’d stay here again. They did recently partner with Marriott (hopefully we’ll actually get the Bonvoy since it happened right after we booked and we didn’t realize it until we were already there). Maybe Marriott will make some investment in the property, because it’s a great concept that just didn’t quite live up to expectations.

"Great for our group"

10.0

Great location- close by theatre district and the L (which you could hear humming from the apartment but not in a disrupting way) What we saw in online pictures was what we got, super comfy beds, very clean, easy to access the building & room with our codes. Two of the bedrooms had no ceilings which we thought a little strange (made it feel like everyone outside the room could hear what was going on in there, but it didn't matter for us. Some people might care).

"Definitely great value for money."

the location is great, overall good experience, I would definitely stay there again. Luggage storage was especially handy.

the dishes stacked in the cupboards were a little dirty... I think someone ran them in the dishwasher without the detergent. Please make sure dishwasher detergent is available in the rooms.
