"Home away from home 💛"

9.0

Hostel Guacasmayas really felt like home. It is such a cute place and the vibe is really good. We were informed at check-in that a renovation was going on but it really wasnt a problem. After the workers were gone, everything was left clean everyday. The hostel also has bikes and scooters for rent at a fair price which was the perfect way to explore Valladolid and the cenotes. The owner of the hostel is really friendly and has tons of advice for nice restaurants and places to visit. I met so many great people during my stay, I would recommend it to everyone.

Sometimes the toilets were not flushing all the way but it really wasn’t that big of a problem. You just need to wait a bit longer.

Good location close to everything and the breakfast is amazing to start the day with. I had a very good time at Hostal Guacamayas and can really recommend staying here. What is better then the delicious breakfast is the vibe, it's feels lika coming home to your best friends house. I got so many good recommendations for activities and restaurants they know valladolid by their hearts.

"Cozy pretty hostel"

10.0

This is a quiet little hostel where I felt like at home. Not too many people even when full so you get to meet and share with people from all over. Location is great, between the centre of town and a very prettty cenote that’s just 5 minutes away walking.

"Super cheap but take the photos with a pinch of salt - this hostel needs a lot of work. :("

3.0

The hostel had a few positive aspects such as the efficient air conditioning that was available all day, and the friendly and helpful volunteers. However, the overall condition of the hostel was disappointing and needs significant improvements. Despite the pleasant owner and affordable price, it needs some serious TLC. It is conveniently located, just a 10-minute walk from the ADO bus station and the Colectivo to Chichen Itza.

This is the only hostel we stayed at throughout our 9-week trip, that we thought about leaving. It was very affordable for a few nights, and while you get what you pay for, the experience became slightly ridiculous. These are just a few incidents that occurred during our 4-night stay: - The walls of one bunk were crumbling, and shedding debris onto the beds. We had to clean it as soon as we entered the room and every time we sat on the bed. - One of our bunks was missing a privacy curtain, so my partner asked if they could switch to a different one. Unfortunately, the new bunk had ants, and we had to switch again. - There were lots of ants crawling on the kitchen walls near the cooking equipment. Over the 4 days, we noticed quite a few ant infestations around the hostel. - The pool was unusable when we got there. There was a lot of gunk on the top and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. We were informed by the volunteers that the owner had put some chemicals into it, but nobody really knew what was going on with it. - One night, the volunteers had a day off and I think the owner was meant to be covering. Not sure if he had left at some point, but by 10.30 pm the front reception was empty and people were trying to check in. (You're allowed to check in until Midnight). They managed to get my attention from outside, and I had to speak to them, let them know what was going on, and wake up a volunteer (who had been there about a week) so they could contact the owner to come back and check them in. Happy to help, but everything felt really unorganised. The only other thing I can say is take the photos with a pinch of salt - we booked this because of the price, great reviews, and images on booking.com, but the place requires significant repairs. It's such a shame because it has the potential to be a lovely little hostel, but it needs a lot of TLC. I'm sorry to leave this review, but I feel like people need to know our experience.
