Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Charleston Downtown

Location was ok

It would have been nice if Booking.com or the hotel had notified us that the facility was under construction. I specifically chose the hotel because it had a pool and the pool was closed for renovation. You had to request housekeeping, which I did twice and they never showed. The breakfast was a joke. There were old mattresses and furniture in the hallways. I could go on….

The brand new, updated, comfy room was a plus. Staff is always nice and friendly, especially Natasha. Free breakfast is also a plus. I’ve stayed here several times and I will be returning again soon.

First of, there is MAJOR construction going on in the building for 'upgrades'. When I came in to check in, there was a customer complaining about the noise and asking for another room at on a higher floor. Lots of exposed places and workers all over. The room was cheap compared to other hotels downtown, but the site was about 10 mins away from the action driving so there was nothing other than if u were there for the VA hospital or MUSC it was right on the campus. We were not in the room most of the time. However, the air conditioner in the room was very loud (that morning another customer was complaining about that noise when i went to get coffee. Breakfast was frozen sausage biscuits in the pack and yogurt. Abismal). The room was ok, clean enough. We got back late and parking was barely there,and there was not alot of people checked in. Also sketchy individuals just loitering in the parking lot. As women we were glad there was a parking attendant outside. However, my biggest issue was that I was double billed. They charged me twice. Once the day before when I prepayed for the room, then the morning I checked out, for parking and then both room and parking was pre authorized AGAIN. I found this out when my card declined when i went to get gas otw home. So I called to ask why and was told by Tiffany she didnt know. Well Tiffany you checked me out. Why dont you know? She quickly wanted to shift to "OH it will fall off your account in 2 to 3 business days, you want a reciept emailed to you?" lol. Learned my lesson. I will stay with my Hilton hotels from now on and pay more.

The fact that they are charging over $150 a night for this place in its current state is o travesty. While the website does say it is under construction, they do not make it clear just how horrendous the situation is. The entire lobby is wrapped in plastic, ceiling beams exposed, and wreaks of paint and construction materials. The “renovated” rooms are tiny and you can hear construction all day, well beyond their posted hours. The “grab and go” breakfast included in the price is no more than what you would get in a bad public school breakfast—a sugar laden muffin or granola bar. Not even a banana or bottle of water to take with you. The posted sign that says that understand if you want to take your business else where is at odds with the strict no refund policy, and deceptive as Charleston hotels are booked weeks in advance during the summer. My husband and I attempted to look for other rooms in the area but there simply wasn’t anything else available by time we got there. Truly a nightmare with no genuine attempt from the business to make this habitable. They should be reported to the BBB for fraud. I’ve stayed in roadside motels with better service.

The lobby and other parts of the hotel were under construction, but the staff was nice and the room was fine, and very close to MUSC.

The night clerk on the first night was stellar but went downhill after her. Also the parking attendant was very helpful and kind. For medical purposes location was stellar!

Renovating is a mess. Room was not thoroughly cleaned from previous folks as we found water bottles and cups. No signage on operating ac or lights. TV got only 5 channels

The pillows and bed were very comfortable and the room had been recently renovated. The room was quiet and the shower was great!

Not much for breakfast

We had roaches in our room and the floor had hair balls all over the carpet. It was never vacuumed.

Past the construction area which is, well, construction; the room was excellent. Excellent was also the attention received by the staff. Thank you!

Had a very bad experience. Multiple issue ranging from telephone not working to toilet flush not working. Had to fill the dustbin with water and clear the toilet.
