Stayed here for a number of years. Rooms great, staff great & could not be more helpful. Like a home from home.

Staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful. Food is good quality and, in particular, breakfast is highly recommended. Very handy for Bishop Auckland, the South Durham area and within 10 miles of Durham City. Situated in an old and quiet village.

A couple of minor points but nothing that should deter visitors.

Food was fantastic, great choice, all home made and very large portions. Room was clean and good for the 3 of us, Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Nice comfortable pub and hotel, good location for touring the area and friendly helpful staff. Good choice of evening meals. Ideal for a long weekend.

Sometimes parking was difficult.

Good sized room, it was nice to have a sofa for sitting on at night. Our room has a lovely view of the Saxon church too. The breakfast was tasty and nicely cooked.

On our second night there was a party in the pub, the music was exceptionally loud (hearing the words in your room loud) - thankfully it went off at 10.45pm - but it was disappointing we weren't forewarned when we checked in as we could have delayed our return that night. The impact of the party rolled into breakfast the following day where it looked like all the party guests (maybe 30?) came back for breakfast...the waitresses were stretched thin trying to cope with them alongside the b&b guests...for most of our breakfast we were sat in a room surrounded by dirty tables/plates. We asked for milk for our tea, the tea came but the milk never did...so resorted to using the cereal milk. It took 45mins for our food to come. Disappointing because everything the first night had been so good. We would stay again but only on nights we knew there wouldnt be a party.
