"Won't stay there again"

4.0

Our family stayed at the Crown Paradise PV for a week at Christmas. Pro's: We found every aspect of The resort to be clean. The evening shows were well done and enjoyable. The water park is wonderful for the kids. The beach is lovely. The accommodation portion of the resort is quiet at night. Major Con: Sewer gas odor emanated from the shower and bathroom stall 24/7 throughout our stay. It was so strong that it woke us on several occasions feeling very nauseated. For that reason alone - we will not stay there again. Other Con's: The specialty restaurant reservation system is awful; reservations can only be made via their QR code. Reservations open at 9:00 a.m. sharp, and there were no available reservations after 9:05 a.m.. The system was further complicated by the resort's unreliable Wifi, making it impossible to make a booking. Reservations are made by Room #, so we were unable to book reservations for everyone in our 2 rooms unless we went in person and begged the restaurant manager to give us a table for 6 people. Room fridge was not re-stocked until the 4th night of our 7 night stay. They will only issue 1 room key per room, which is ridiculous when 2 adults are staying in the room. Bathroom sink had a major leak onto the vanity shelf below it We reported it 3 times, to no avail, so we put towels there, 2 or 3 times a day, to soak up the water.

Amazing stay. All the staff were great - David and his dancing by the pool was great too. Would recommend to a friend to come for a week at any time.

"Good local family resort but not high end"

6.0

My husband and I visited this resort with our children and grandchildren. After reading reviews before booking, we thought we were prepared for what we were getting at this resort. Most of it was as expected with the kids pool being absolutely fantastic and the resort location also really great as it was close to shopping and the airport. The two things that were a great disappointment, however, were the food and the rooms. The rooms were quite run down (picture chips in the mirror and mold in the shower and questionable stains in the sink). The buffet was small and not great. The three specialty restaurants were better but were quite difficult to get into (book online at 9am sharp as they are fully booked by 9:03 am), yet were only a third full all evening. Maybe the resort is quite short staffed? The Italian restaurant was the best and their service was amazing. Overall, this was a good, local type of resort and was nice for families with young children. If you are looking for fine dining or anything fancy, this is not the resort.

"Stayed as a family of 5 from Canada"

6.0

We stayed here as a family of five from Canada with kids age 8,7, and 6. Based on the reviews when we initially booked, everything looked really good. But when we got to the resort, it seemed a little more rundown than we were expecting. The pros: - kids club was a hit with our kids and gave us an hour to relax - the pools were nice and not overly crowded - the kids pool was probably the best one of the resorts we have previously visited - the evening shows were always well done - the restaurants were all amazing (Japanese, Italian, and french), but the Italian was our favorite not only for the food but the service was great. - the set up of the family rooms was really nice with the king bed and bunk beds for the kids - the snack bar was perfect for a quick lunch while hanging out at the beach or pool - it’s close to the marina, which means the market is right next door and open any time a cruise ship ports - it’s only about 5-10 min from the airport - the bars were close at all times and you didn’t have to go far for a drink The cons: - the buffet wasn’t good. There wasn’t a lot of variety and the stuff they did have was mediocre - the rooms are dated and didn’t feel fully clean. - the king bed was very firm and uncomfortable - our safe didn’t work from the day we got there and then maintenance took it saying they’d bring a new one but never did (even after multiple attempts to have a new one put in the room) - lots of staff didn’t speak a lot of English so there was difficulty communicating at times - the booking for the restaurants was frustrating as you can only book the day-of and it books very quickly- then when you get to the restaurants they were only half full - there wasn’t a lot of on-site entertainment - the evening shows aren’t at the resort, but down the street at another location Overall it was okay- we still had a good family trip. But it wasn’t what we were used to.

"It was good!"

6.0

We were originally booked in one of the family rooms but it had a massive leak in the bathroom.. my sister and her family were also booked in a family room and the ceiling was dripping water. Luckily we were upgraded to a penthouse suite which was much better for a family anyways... it had a balcony to chill on and a much better view. Not to mention a coffee maker and a private bathroom (things the family room lacked). Only down fall was our toilet was clogged and we needed to ask for a plunger every day.. we did ask for someone to just leave one in the room but they didn't have one I guess. Finally the toilet was officially fixed by a man who brought extra tools (on our last day) but then it made a horrendous sound for about 15 minutes after you flushed it. So loud our daughter woke up scared and asking what was going on! The toilet in my mothers room did the same thing... so Im not sure much can be done as the plumbing is just very old. The hallway also had a massive leak at one point. The staff is amazing though.. everyone is so nice. The restaurants are also amazing! We got into all of them luckily. The staff will help you get in if you are having difficulties. The system to book online is poor.. it would be better to just receive a 2-3 tickets upon arrival that can be used anytime during the stay. When everyone gets online at once it can feel impossible. But what you have to do is click book the instant it saids 9:01am. The buffet food I'm sorry to say wasn't good... it could be a lot better if it didn't have a pre frozen taste. Even a omelette made in front of you had a freezer taste. The fruit had a freezer taste.. There are some wild raccoons that run around at night. My 13 year old niece was walking back to her room and one hissed at her and stole her sandal and started to eat it. Luckily my husband was walking behind her and booted it.. at first the raccoon was not backing down.. which is very scary considering he was holding my 4 year old who started to scream. I ended up hearing it and came out to see my niece crying and my son freaking out. I'm just happy no one was injured. They can be seriously vicious creatures at times. It would be nice if more precautions could be taken to deter them. Traps maybe.. and then they can be released into the wild somewhere... they run in the hallways at night. Altogether there were 11 of us (3 families). About half of us did get sick... so if you think you'll be safe because it's a resort I would still take precautions. Of course we are unsure if it happened at the resort or if it was an excursion that did it.

"The rat in the room made it officially the worst resort I've been to"

4.0

First, I am a "thrifty" traveler and adjust my expectations accordingly. Also, I have never left a negative review, but this needs to be shared. The good: the beach is nice, with the expected amount of vendors. The location is close to two different malls, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club and two grocery stores, so you can find anything you need/forgot within walking distance. I felt safe leaving the resort to walk around at any time The bartenders are friendly and attentive to adults and kids alike. The bad: the restaurants are impossible to get into - there was not a single opening in any of the specialty restaurants during our stay. The food at the buffet is mediocre, I was able to find something to eat, but I definitely did not enjoy any meals. The service is the same - if a server did happen to come by to take a drink order, they never returned. Most of the time, they never bothered to stop. After the 2nd day I stopped leaving tips on the table because it made no difference in the service and I get cranky if I don't get coffee. The ugly: the first room was bad. It was dirty - clumps of hair in the drain, the sink had streaks of various colors, there was a puddle by the toilet, make up on all the mirrors. The faucet on the sink was barely attached, you had to hold the base down while lifting the handle to use it. Mold in the shower. And, a visit from a rat in the middle of the night (it came in from a hole in the wall behind the toilet). The second room was marginally better, but there was a crack in the wooden door that you could see through from the hallway and the sliding glass door didn't lock. The shower was also moldy and the toilet made a whistling/whining/gurgling/squeaking noise when flushed. After 2 days, I tried to book another resort, but couldn't get a room anywhere I was sure would be better and I wasn't up for another gamble. I'd say save your money, but this resort wasn't the cheapest, so I'll just say pick something else.

"Great family resort, frustrating reservation system"

8.0

All of the staff were absolutely superb Lucia and Imelda at the BEach Bar for certain. There is so much for kids to do as they really do cater to families. The only problem we encountered is their reservation system for the restaurants. There was never availability, even when we knew to try to use the app at 9 am. There are 3 restaurants apart from the buffet which is one of the reasons we chose this resort. We only got to eat at 2 and that was by begging the maitre d' before service as they themselves knew the app was not useful. Even when you could get in the maximum amount of people for your reservation were the amount staying in your room. We travelled with 7 people in 3 rooms and you could just not make it work. The meal at the French, and Japanese restaurant were superb once we pleaded to get in. No luck getting into the Italian one though even though it was 3/4 empty the nights we wanted to go. We still would definitely go back but they MUST fix that system.

"A very good experience @ crown paradise!"

10.0

Stayed here 2nd week of November, Staff, friendly and polite. Wanted to give 4.5 rating, based on staff. Resort rooms are very comfortable and accommodating, seems to have been updated in recent years. We had a 2 bedroom unit, which offered a 1/2 fridge loaded with free water, soda and beer, refilled daily. Buildings a little bit older, but clean and well maintained. Grounds clean, maintained. Noted 5 pools, 2 adult only. Food good, 2 buffet locations, 1 is all adults. David a resort rep, was very helpful and offered good advice.
