EVERYTHING - from the minute we arrived everything was pure perfection. I proposed to my girlfriend and the whole evet was planned to perfection with the great help from Betsy. Cannot thank Betsy and ALL the staff at Grantley Hall who helped make it the most amazing evening

Our first trip here on recommendation of two different sets of friends. We were not disappointed - this ranks as one of our favourite ever hotels and we've been to a fair few. The setting is stunning (the drive in along the river in particular) and the personalised welcome makes you feel special. The accommodation and shared spaces are beautiful and spotless, the food is superb and the staff are particularly polite and welcoming. The price would lead most people to expect this high level of quality but nevertheless we had an amazing experience and will be returning.

Grantley is truly fabulous! From the moment you arrive until you leave reception, everything was great. The cosy room was just as described - nice touches of damson gin, apples and one of the comfiest beds I've slept in. The staff are delightful, the spa treatments were lovely, the facilities in the spa, amazing and the atmosphere superb. We ate in 88 - a lovely fusion restaurant, full on a Wednesday evening! They gave us a beautiful plate of delicacies to celebrate our two occasions - it was a generous, welcome touch! They would have got top marks but the promised chocolates and water for our return trip were not in the car....

We loved the cosy room - it had everything we needed and the shower room was spectacular! The treatments in the spa were good, as were the facilities there. The damson gin was a nice touch. The bed and pillows made for a very comfortable night. Dinner at 88 was delicious and the ambience was great.

We would have preferred the option of a "light" breakfast as we are not early eaters but there was no choice. We were promised water and chocolates in the car to "continue the Grantley experience" but they were not there..

Our experience on arrival was very good; the gatehouse guy and the porters and reception were all excellent, being both friendly and professional. The room was very well appointed and comfortable with good quality amenities. We also had an excellent meal at 88 - really tasty food and excellent service from both the bar team and the waiting staff. We chose the wine flight to accompany the set menu and would definitely recommend it - the sommelier was very knowledgeable and informative about the wines. There were just a couple of niggles - and I'm aware these are definitely 'first world' issues but when you're paying north of £850 for bed and breakfast I think you're entitled to be a bit fussy. Firstly the service in the main hotel bar - the guy got us water and then promptly forgot about up with my husband ending up having to go to the bar to find someone to take our order. Secondly, the Guest Experience Manager who took us to our room mentioned that we could be driven across to 88 in the hotel Bentley. On arrival in reception to head to dinner we noticed it was absolutely pouring down outside. We were slightly surprised when the porter simply handed my husband an umbrella and wished us a good evening. When we mentioned the car he said we ' could go in it if we wanted to' and somewhat grudgingly took us across to the restaurant. As I said above a small niggle but at this level there should be no niggles. I would add that I didn't intend to publish this review in case it reflected badly on the vast majority of the team who do an excellent job, but having been asked by the Guest Experience guy to send him some feedback, having done so and received zero response (not even an acknowledgement of the message) I thought I would share more widely. All in all the hotel is lovely but at this sort of price point service simply has to be 5 star and it wasn't on this occasion.
