Really nice private open air onsen in room used twice a day! Great Location to Gora Station, Gora Park, Venetian Open Air Museum and close to Hakone Ropeway, Lake Ashi, owakudani Station plus more.

Traditional feel and ambiance from start to finish, very relaxing place, having private onsen on the balcony is such a lovely experience, and there’s a lot of complimentary inclusions like drinks and snacks, plus lovely yukatas for use inside the hotel; location close to second stop of the ropeway - good idea to jump on it on arrival to Gora by Tozan train to reach the hotel and avoid a steep climb with a suitcase :)) and to beat the crowds for Hakone loop

The location of the Ryoken was a bit of an adventure from Hakone but I wouldn't let that put you off. It is perfectly located to get the ropeway over to Lake Ashi to see Mt Fuji as the cable car is a 2 min walk. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The amenities at the hotel were great with access to drinks and snacks 24 hours a day. They even have a pillow bar so you can choose a pillow to suit you!

There wasn't much going on in the local area with many of the shops and amenities closing early, so staying and booking breakfast and dinner at the hotel would make it easier (we didn't and it only made sense when we realised how closed things got in the evenings!)

Affordable while being top tier in ryokan experience. They even had a free beverage room on the floors for people to grab waters, sparkling water, tea, beers. The dinners and breakfast were good, traditional and definitely filling. The onsens were well stocked and organized with facial cleansers, shampoos, water was good temperature, lockers. Rooms were very spacious, comfortable and clean. Room had a fridge, onsen bath, bedtime clothes and also a bunch of robes to choose from on the main floor. Free alcohol bar with beer on tap and liquor plus a soda machine and also had fresh carrot juice. Also small touches like an ice cream bar with matcha flavor, chocolate etc, blue popsicles, and cold water machine situated right outside the onsens - you can tell everything was well thought out. Was a super relaxing part of Japan and one of my favorite parts of the trip, I looked forward to staying at that ryokan all night each day. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and professional.

The breakfast was in the same area (private rooms) as the dinners. Breakfast was Japanese style with a set menu and was very good. There was enough food even if some items did not appeal to you. The same can be said for the dinners. They was no reason to be hungry. The staff made every attempt to explain the menu even if their English was limited. The room was large by Japanese hotel standards. The cyprus(?) onsen was excellent. But it is not the type with constant inflow of fresh hot spring water. The best method was to drain the tub after each use and refill when needed. Refilling did not take that long. There are buttons for refilling the tub on a timer (e.g. 5 minutes at a time, 15 minutes at a time). The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. There are elevators, thankfully. And, there are free refreshments (alcoholic and otherwise) in the fridge and in the basement communal area. The location is a bit of an uphill walk from Gora Station.

Our room faced the parking lot, which seemed to always have somebody hanging around in it, talking. It wasn't the greatest view. But, it is in the populated area. A stay here with a private onsen is not inexpensive USD500-USD600 per night is to be expected. There is a shuttle that runs between this hotel and their sister hotel, which is 5 minute walk to Gora Station. But, you can't get a shuttle ride to or from Gora Station. We took a taxi (about 700 yen) because of the luggage and uphill walk.
