Telford Madeley Court

Lovely location, interesting building, comfy bed, great food, great company. Niggles - Bar had issues with some drinks on tap, breakfast was being set up while we were still eating evening meal and it wasn't late, room key card had to be reset at least twice, checkout was 11am public areas were being vacuumed while we sat in the lounge chatting well before 11am. Disorganised checkout of the group.

Wonderful building. Approach road dangerously potholed. No aircon in room despite ad infering thwre was. Broken window with tape over in bedroom. Very difficult stairs and no lift. Dirty hand basin in bathroom. Room was so small there wasn’t even room for a chair to sit on! Had to wait 5+ minutes to get served in the bar as unattended. Breakfast and breakfast staff rescued the stay....

Thought the interior was amazing even better than the photo.Had breakfast in the great Hall another great experience. Although weather overcast the exterior looked beautiful-my bedroom overlooked the lake surrounded by woods. The lakeside bar area looked enticing -would be even more so on a sunny day.Would definitely visit again if only on day trip. The history of building is of great interest.

Stayed her fore for 2 nights. Had to change room half way through due to the first room being inadequate. Bed had a huge dip in it leaving it unbearable to sleep in. Second room much better but not very clean and the walls were so thin it sounds as though the room above had the cast of stomp staying in there, so again no sleep. The customer service was the worst part, the place is run by young adults/ teenagers and they have no customer service experience, they were not very helpful or forthcoming with any of the concerns raised. I’d left some belongings in the first room and the guy on the front desk had no idea how to deal with this, in the end I basically had to do his job for him and inform him what he needed to do. It’s a shame as this place could be a lot better with not a great deal of effort. Little touches to the room and it’s cleanliness and better training for the staff or a manager/ someone with customer service experience around to manage the staff would be hugely beneficial.

great value for money

Surprised to be such a large room. Very comfortable, breakfast good, especially bearing in mind that renovation work was going on and the breakfast room had been changed.

Shocking Hotel. I got there and they didn't have my reservation from Hotels.com. The receptionist then messed around trying to find my name for about 5 mins on their system. She had to ask me my name three times. I finally got a key to my room, walked in, and it had not even been made-up. There was rubbish, towels, and bed linen all over the place. I refused to stay in this room and went back to reception. It took them another 5 mins to find another room. I got the key to this room and walked in; I tried the light switches and none of them worked. The decor was exceptionally shabby and evoked a 1960's den style, which had not been upgraded in 60 years. I decided not to stay here at all and went back to the front desk gave my key card back and said that I would leave it. During all of this, I did not receive one apology and when I said I was leaving, all they said to me was, "are you sure". Disgraceful for a Mercure Hotel. I would certainly want my money back.

Very old, fascinating hotel! Because it's so steeped in history, not all mod cons are going to be possible, but clean and comfortable. Only minor gripe is I couldn't control the temperature in my room, it was too hot, so I opened the windows

Initially placed in a room in the old building. Lovely building but as a result of its age you could hear everything that happened in the staff room below us. Also TV did not work reported the TV that night and never heard anything more about it. Asked to be moved in the morning which they did and the reactionist was very accomodating. Our new room had a working TV and as it was in the new wing it was much better. The bed in the new room wasn't particularly comfortable as the 2 single mattresses pushed together left a solid ridge down the middle of the bed. Staff were friendly Building is beautiful with lots of character.

Really nice property. Very firendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was te highlight. Really nice and relaxing start to Saturday morning. My only gripes would be the payment systems seemed really old. I had to take my bill from dinner to reception to pay which seems a bit antequated! Also the room could have been a bit cleaner, especially the carpet.
