Surroundings outside the hotel is fine; hotel room is good. Location is terrific.

No air con, there were steps in my room (?), looked like it was very outdated. Room was too hot, fan was provided but was loud so kept me awake. Stains on towel. I normally stay at the premier inn and probably will again from now on.

First impressions where nice, lovely decor and nice staff. A small booking in issue but that can happen anywhere. The room was on the third floor. The room along with what we saw of the third floor needed renovation. The main problem for us was the room, very hot with no temperature control, neither of us can sleep in a hot room. We decided to open the ancient rotten windows and found a busy street beneath. We got back to the room around midnight after leaving the windows open all day. The room was still hot and the noise from the street below was awful. We got an hour sleep max. Disappointed from what I thought would be one of the best hotels in Leicester city centre.

How this hotel has 4 stars is beyond me. Granted on arrival the reception area lounge and bar did look impressive, but when you get up close to the finish of the decor and the overall cleanliness of the place you realise this is a poorly managed hotel where the staff have little to no passion for customer experience. Check was quick and the lady on reception was efficient but emotionless. We stayed in a privilege room on the 3rd floor. The walk there from reception showed that this once grand hotel had been hastily renovated (probably some years ago) and had been poorly maintained. The increasing dread my wife and I experienced on this journey through corridor after corridor was justified on entering our room. The room was covered in dust, the floor was uneven and creaked loudly, the TV had smears on it and the sound from the street outside suggested we were in Magaluf. The bathroom was a disgrace and more befitting of a low budget guest house and to top it off we had faeces on the toilet seat. The manager was called and came to inspect the room. on asking to be moved we were informed the hotel was full but he would have the room cleaned. He left and later he returned with cleaning products and went about doing a half arsed job of cleaning the room. There was an offer of drink vouchers which we didn't use and he suggested we contact hotels.com to arrange a partial refund which we are considering. Bed was comfy and appeared to be clean. Average breakfast. Avoid!!!

The building was a period beautiful building with some retained features. The decor and lighting although reflective of the period, was dark. The room furniture and carpet was tired but clean. The biggest issue was the scaffolding outside the entrance. We couldn’t see the name of the hotel and the sat nav took us to the rear carpark - walking around the building the name was obscured and only Marco, the name of the restaurant, in plain view.

Not so good

Room was so small there was no bedside table on either side of the bed. Carpet was disgusting. Window didn’t open properly, bathroom was dirty. I like mercure hotels elsewhere but I won’t stay in this one again.

Quirky hotel. Service was good and staff professional. First visit but would definitely return

Excellent the service is brilliant and the food is fantastic

Room not clean, scaffolding outside my window with builders working from 8am, overcharged at the bar and my room was located on the Main Street so it was very noisy until 1.30am. I travel a lot for work so comfort is important to me, I expected Better from this hotel!
