Fingal - A Luxury Floating Hotel

The Fingal provided a unique experience that we thoroughly enjoyed and would happily take part in again during any return trip to Edinburgh. Staff were simply remarkable and positively added to our stay with helpful suggestions about local travel tips, what to visit, and where to eat.

I cannot fault the Fingal hotel in any way. Booked this as part of our mini moon after getting married in Scotland and it really lived up to expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff were friendly and engaging, giving us tips on sights and restaurants in the area. The room itself (luxury cabin) was perfect for us, tastefully decorated and with a door going onto the deck upfront. We both slept really well and the mattress quality was excellent. The breakfast was divine, so many options to pick from and all executed perfectly. Special shout out to the staff at breakfast who were so cheerful and made it effortless to pick whatever we wanted from the menu. We had dinner on board the first night and it is truly fine dining, our plates were like pieces of art. One final fabulous feature of the boat is its elevator, which again, is tastefully designed in keeping with the rest of the interior as well as being spacious. I’m already planning when I can return to this wonderful hotel!

What a place to stay!!!!. Amazing place with fantastic staff and fantastic food…very quiet and perfect for a romantic getaway..can’t fault the place and have to say the staff went above and beyond to make our stay even better….can’t wait to return and highly recommend…5 star treatment and food

Our group of 4 arrived at the Fingal on Monday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. We had just spent the prior week in London. We were greeted with genuine appreciation. The rooms were impeccably furnished, with bath towels so heavy I could hardly lift them lol. There was a lovely note welcoming us and an endless supply of sweet treats arrived daily. All delicious! The dining room is lovely and the meals were wonderful. But the most important thing about the crew was how they helped me retrieve my “left behind at the last hotel” jewelry box. When we explained what had happened they just calmly took the situation out of our hands and and saw to it for us. We were able to go out and visit without worrying. It arrived at the Fingal on the Wednesday. I was so impressed with every member on that ship. I would like them and everyone to know that this is excellence to the next level. Cheers!

The staff made the stay for us - so helpful and keen to look after us. The boat is beautiful and every comfort has been thought of. I would love to return.

Faultless 5 star service, beautiful food & attention to detail was spot on. I treated my son & his girlfriend to a cabin too, as it was his birthday. It was immaculate & full of character. They reported that breakfast was their best ever experience!! Could not recommend Fingal more highly for any special occasion. It deserves all the awards it receives. Thank you all.

Pleased we decided to give Fingal a try. What a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly and attentive during all interactions with them. There was a good amount of staff at breakfast which makes a difference as some hotels breakfast staff are sparse and you can be waiting a while for drinks etc. The deck was directly accessible from our room, it was lovely to get fresh air and look outside. The decor inside the room was lovely. High quality and nice touches. We slept well - it was quiet and the bed was super comfy. The bar / restaurant area was nice and comfortable for drinks when we arrived. Cocktails were delicious. Breakfast was tasty. One thing I would say is the potato scone was small. I understand why from a presentation point of view but I always look forward to a potato scone when I am in Scotland so a larger size or two small ones would be good in future. Overall that is a teeny thing. It’s worth a visit and the complimentary Britannia tickets were great. Leith itself has lots of dinner options. Admittedly a lot of seafood, which we like but if you don’t you could grab a pizza in Zizzi or similar at the Ocean Terminal building. Some restaurants by the water in Leith weren’t open. It was a Tuesday evening so I think some places close during in the week. Worth a try for a different type of stay, particularly if you like ships/maritime.

Second visit. Such a great overnight stay. We will be back again.

Opted for a suite as it was my husband’s birthday and it most certainly was very quirky especially the bathroom . Went out on the deck for a drink on arrival as the weather was glorious. Lovely touch a basket containing suntan cream and a fan BUT not so nice putting my head back on a cushion covered in birds poo . We were asked on a number of occasions were we there to celebrate something not really sure why as nothing done to mark the occasion so seems bit of a pointless exercise. Food in the restaurant was excellent and would definitely visit again even just for a meal . I am an extremely fussy eater and it’s high praise if I enjoy something! Staff at breakfast need to pay a bit more attention as twice our breakfast order was wrong . Noticed a difference in cooking styles as well ,pancakes on the second day were not served the same way . Nice touch the complimentary ticket for Britannia,which we used as it was raining. Overall we enjoyed our stay ,but there is definitely room for improvement.
