Mercure St Albans Noke

Really nice place to stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was well appointed and in good condition. The food was reasonably priced and very good. Breakfast was well worth having.

Unfortunately large family from hell in the ajoining rooms crashing doors shouting both in the corridors and rooms plus continually going to carpark outside our room to smash the car doors shut. Going on till 2 am.Not sure what the staff were doing but no apparent attempt to shut the ignorant pigs up.

Some people haven’t rated this hotel very highly so I was a bit worried about staying but overall I was pleasantly surprised.. staff helpful, breakfast plentiful fresh and well stocked. Pool, gym and leisure centre clean and probably the best size pool I’ve been in for a while in a hotel. Bedroom was a little tired and towels could have been better but bathroom fresh and new, nice toiletries and a good tea, coffee tray that included good quality tea bags, water hot chocolate and biscuits.. I would stay here again if I was in the area.

In my room the double electric socket near window did not work which only discovered when phone did not charge .Breakfast service slow only one pot of tea brought for 3 people had to ask for more .No one cleared plates .Cutlery was missing from table so could have been better .

Breakfast excellent, accommodated gf and vegan requests. Food and coffee piping hot. Superior Room very, very disappointing. Vastly overpriced- No shelves or drawers!! We were there 5 nights and had to live out of suitcase. No water pressure in shower- told to go to gym if want decent shower!! Safe on floor we ( almost 70 year-olds) had to lie on floor to open and close it. No minibar or fridge. Air conditioner didn’t keep proper temperature

Stayed here for a trip to Harry Potters World and London and was excellent. Conveniently located, beautiful breakfast. Rooms could be slightly noisy from tourists on a bus holiday but other than that we had a great stay!

This hotel appears to be having an identity crisis. Where it has clearly been modernised in certain areas, that seems to clash with some original features and then an 80's feel in some of the furnishings and decor. The room was adequate, but not in my opinion, up to 4* standard. There was rust on some of the fittings and the carpet was very well worn. Add to this windows with a pole to open them and furniture that had seen better days and I can't really understand the rating or subsequent pricing.. The service was really good however the bar area felt quite bizarre with a mix of three rooms that had been modernised for the most part with new AC and visible cable tray but with visible loose cables hanging over existing beams in other areas and no real atmosphere because of the layout.. All in all I would say this is mainly a 3* hotel with some 4* parts. It needs a full refurbishment in my opinion where the whole hotel is taken into account rather than what appears to have happened where it has been modernised in parts which needed to be modernised, but without the overall aesthetic being taken into account. Comfortable and clean enough but not a great example of a 4* hotel.
