"Good Sleep, Generally Friendly Staff - but definitely some easy Improves."

6.0

I spent 1 month here and will just list off the issues. Overall the place was not bad, and sometimes great, but definitely some snags that are easy fixes. 1) Key card didn't work right after getting it. This was my first sing that hotel performance would be subpar. 2) Internet took forever to connect. Kept getting errors. 3) TV remote was not working. I had to return to front desk right after checking in, to ask for a replacement or new batteries. The staff grabbed a replacement or batteries from another guest room. 4) Tried to check out gym but key wouldn't work so I went to front desk to ask for help. No one was there. I called out for anyone in the back and no one responded. 5) Once the nightstand lamps and alarm clock are plugged in, there is only one power outlet available in sleeping area. One. It is the 21st century - buy the lsamps that have outlets and in them and/or retrofit new outlets that also come with USB ports. 6) One of the two phone jacks in the room did not work. 7) Toilet is sized for a toddler. No top-chain-brand hotel in America should not have an elongated toilet in 2021. 8) The shower was impossible to get to warm. It was hot or cold. And depending on which side you turn the knob from it would be hot where it was cold before, and vice versa. Made absolutely no sense. Shower space was small also. 9) I called at 9pm on a Wednesday and asked for 2 extra pillows. I was told they have no extra pillows. I asked face to face the next day at the front desk for two extra pillows and was told housekeeping would check and bring them up. I never heard anything again. As a note: extra pillows was requested during my reservation and is by default set in my Marriott account preferences. It took emailing the hotel ops manager to get the two extra pillows. 10) Wifi logged me off multiple times a day. Was not particularly easy to log back on. This happens a lot at certain properties (across brands) and not at others. I always hear back "Bookmark the login site" or "this happens at the end of the stay for security reason." My counter to that is "of course I book the site and it happening multiple times a day means it it is not a daily security issue nor is it only at the end of a stay. Other hotels including Marriotts, do not have this issue, so it is clearly a hotel or region specific thing, created without the user in mind." 11) The door from the lobby towards the room hallway never works with your room key. I think I got it to work once out of like 5 times. Staff noted they have problems with it. So clearly management just refuses to fix the issue - which is unprofessional. 12) I requested a new pepper shaker because the one in the room was broken. The cap did not screw on. It was not even a big deal and frankly was only reporting it so that it can be fixed at some point. The manager said he would solve it. Housekeeping showed up with a bowl filled with half salt packets and half pepper packets. So I have no idea where the communication breakdown occurred here. Every hotel should have on hand, at least a few extra sets of things in rooms - especially for extended stay hotels like TownePlace Suites with kitchens. 13) The frying pan was terrible quality and burnt everything making me think the fire alarm would go off every time I cooked anything. Upgrade your supplier option to something better. Also, the pan did not fit properly on the small stove's bigger burner (where it should go). So it basically just burnt anything on the one side of the pan and then didn't cook the other side. 14) No upgrade given despite being Titanium Elite status. 15) There are two conflicting covid mask signs on the main door giving conflicting guidance. Basically, Virginia changed the laws and they just stuck up another sign saying masks (especially for vaccinated) were not mandatory. But then kept the sign saying they were mandatory. 16) Staff: The manager that I emailed with for the pillows and pepper shaker was very kind and friendly and even remembered my name from the email when we first ran into each other in the lobby. I was very impressed by that. But I did once email him and the general hotel account asking for a favor because I was in a pinch. I ordered Amazon packages to a different marriot down the street and was struggling finding a contact there to ensure they would hold the packages for me considering I was not a guest at that hotel. I emailed both email addresses I had on file for the manager and the hotel (non-management staff, I presume?) and I never got a response. Ever. Even when I interacted with the staff and manager face to face later and via email on another topic. The night shift guy needs to cheer up. I went down for a few items during my month there and everytime it seemed like I was an annoying burden to him. Like bro, I am just asking to borrow your scotch tape for 2 minutes to use in front of you. Surely all you are doing is surfing Facebook in the backroom at 2am anyhow. The older female staff member was super kind but I think she was the one who said housekeeping would solve the pillow request, but then nothing happened. The younger female staff member was super nice and cool but I probably need to give her a class on computers. But also hard to get bothered by that because, to be frank, she was stunning. 17) There needs to be a better system to know where the luggage carts are - or have someone do a round throughout the different buildings to collect them regularly. . Also, the sidewalks are lacking of good ramps for luggage carts. 18) Also, lobby printers worked once, but not the other like 3 times i tried them. 19) Kitchen in room was well stocked with everything which was great, and despite cleaning staff being noisy in the hallways (like seemingly every hotel for some ungodly reason) it was a good night's sleep. Bed was great, bedding was great. Wifi speed was good. Staff was generally friendly. 20) Room did have an odor in it. As if it was smoked in before or maybe someone was smoking weed in another room and coming through the vent. Interestingly, while walking down the hall, a couple guys were entering their room for the first time as I passed them and one of them turned to me and was like "God smells like dead fish!" To which I just laughed and was like "Yeah, I know right?" A solution to this would be a fan that actually exhausts out of the room and not just up towards the ceiling; and/or windows that opened more that 3 inches. 21) Oh and breakfast during COVID times could have been better. The heating "pan" or whatever, that the sandwiches and pancakes were in was not heated. So the few times I came down to grab a breakfast sandwich they were seemingly still partially frozen. This is an easy fix. 15 mins away at a hilton I spent 2 months in, they heated the pan/holder thingy and it was great. Instead you have to take it to your room and microwave it. Oh and no small cutting knives. Odd. Only big ones.

"Not what it looked like online"

4.0

This place doesn't remotely resemble the pictures online. the doors had been freshly painted so you literally had to kick the doors to get them to open. We had a nieghbor who screamed obsenities at his poor wife all night. But Overall though we enjoyed the kitchen and apartment.

"Exceptional"

it was fine overall. we had to move to a new room because the first room we were assigned had a bed sheet not changed. Further, inside that bed sheet there was a rag that appeared to be used up badly tugged in. It was kind of gross. But they apologized and changed the room promptly. We had no issue with the new room. Overall great experience except that a little hiccup.
