A bit too cramped

A beautiful home in an exceptional location. Scrupulously clean and with so much character. It was my second time staying here and it was just as enjoyable as the first. Thank you!

The location is very good but small window to overlook. Check on website if you are booking one with balcony or without because website displays all the pictures

No elevators, steep stairs Very run down houses nearby Not enough coffee pods in the kitchen If you check in late 40 euros charged Host needs 1 hr to come to greet or open the doors Very hard sofa bed, hurt my knee real bad… imagine a good night sleep on it

We are so glad we chose Red House by the River - Rosa was a fantastic host, ensuring she was there to meet us on arrival, and was so gracious in explaining all the ins and outs of the apartment, and also giving us a wonderful explanation on the map of the layout of Porto. A lovely person, who loves her city, and so passionate in sharing it with visitors. We felt very welcomed and she obviously loves her apartment and we are so glad she is happy to share it. The apartment was HUGE!!! So nice after coming from Lisbon. The view was so nice, we stayed in on our first night for dinner just to enjoy it. I never tired of sitting by the window either in the morning during breakfast, or late at night after a tiring day admiring the Ponte Luis Bridge and Monastery. Super comfortable furnishings, the bedroom and great for sleep, nice and quiet and dark, and the back courtyard was an amazing oasis to unwind. The location was PERFECT for us. So close to everything, but surprisingly AWAY from the hecticness of Ribiera. Even though you are at the BOTTOM of Porto, the walk UP to town was ok if you zigzagged up the main streets, but I'd much prefer at the end of the day, always walking downhill back home. It was so incredibly quiet, even though its only 2 minutes walk from the Ponte Luis Bridge.....how! The washing machine with included laundry detergent was useful for us at the tail end of our trip. We cooked in for 1 dinner, and the kitchen was adequate to make a decent meal with quality (in fact absolutely beautiful) crockery. You wont regret staying here and yes, the views are even more stunning in real life that what any photo can show. Obrigado Rosa

These are very minor minor points, just for completeness: A larger drying rack for laundry wouldve been useful, as we ended up having to use coat hangers and hanging off chairs. Also the kitchen could do with much better knives - at least 1 cooks knife wouldve been handy as there was only 2 very blunt Ikea steak knifes. We stayed for 4 nights (2ppl) but only provided with 2 pods of coffee and 2 tea bags. Although there was access to purchase more pods (which I did as it was not outrageously priced), I think for the price, the supplied complimentary coffee/tea should be reflective of the number of nights stay. We had no issue with this, but as others have mentioned, the stairs are STEEP to get to the top, so bare in mind this. Absolutely loved the way Rosa decorated them though.
