"Lovely room, pleasant staff but spoilt by lack of sleep due to the kitchen extractor fan being left on all night."

4.0

Pleasant staff and hotel but spoilt by lack of sleep due to the kitchen extractor fan outside my bedroom window being left on all night. I requested a partial refund which was refused as I should have given the hotel chance to put it right! Midnight - the hotel doesn’t provide dressing gowns (or tissues or water) so I was hardly going to move rooms. I was then told it hadn’t been on all night as it had been switched off. No it hadn’t. The lift wasn’t working and it would seem it hasn’t been working for quite some time. The approach to the hotel is scruffy and could do with someone pulling up some weeds. The room was lovely and a very comfy bed but the outlook (the back of the hotel) was grim. A dirty flat roof and of course the extractor fan!! The bathroom is basic and the towels are thin. This hotel needs some money spent on it and the sooner the better because it could be special but it really isn’t.

"Good hotel for the price "

Hotel was nice and quiet location. Spa facilities were good. Nice size room. The only thing that was very poor was the shower it just kept going from cold to scolding hot on a cycle no matter what temp you set it to.

"Avoid this place at all costs , disgraceful prices for drinks, staff friendly but embarrassed to ask for £17.50"

4.0

At best a 3 star hotel which is in major need of a refurb, tried to charge £17.50 for a wine which the lovely bar person and the manager said they were embarrassed trying to charge us, they also failed to tell us the lift was out of order and our room was on top of a party that kept us awake until midnight, I have paid less for wine in top London hotels and this certainly wasn’t a top hotel. Staff were embarrassed about so many things but seems the owners don’t care. Avoid this place at all costs

Lovely staff here. I had to take some medicine in the morning and although I didn’t book breakfast the staff were more than happy to get me some food so I didn’t take it on an empty stomach. Spa was lovely and room was a bit dated but still great value for money and comfortable and warm

"Not welcome !"

4.0

Me and my wife stopped here on a Sunday night after spending Friday and Saturday in Oxford for a concert. We checked into our room and immediately noticed the difference between here and Leonardo hotel, this was worse, the mattress, pillows and TV were all pretty poor. The price was not bad but for a little bit extra you could stay in a much better hotel and room. I then sat in the bed and discovered it was the creekiest bed I’ve ever slept on, just moving would have meant no sleep so I opted to go down to reception to ask to move rooms. Nobody was there so waited and then came back. Nobody there again, we had to find a lone bartender to then find someone to help. This was about 7pm and some lad came out eating and said he could swap rooms for us if I brought down my suitcase. Now another thing about this hotel is the lift being out means having to lug suitcases up a never ending maze of stairs and corridors which you will get lost in. He then said I have room 201 to which I replied you made me carry it all the way down to then carry it all the way back up? He then replied well you’re lucky as the only other room we have available is on the third floor! Now I must stress we never encountered another guest from 2pm to 9am the following morning at breakfast when another member of staff told us they were cooking eggs to order as they were so quiet! We then saw some other guests (3 couples who I’m sure were also scattered in the furthest reaches of this dark empty place with no lift) What a complete and utter shambles this place is, now I understand Sundays are quieter so why not place us in a nearer room? It seems staff have a good laugh behind the managers back Sundays and hide away eating, the chap who swapped our room had no customer service skills, personality and even managed to have a smug look on his face when I said the bed was creeking. I think he was Australian and does not give off a friendly vibe at all. I was too tired to argue as I’m sure there was no manager on duty anyway. We have stayed in hotels on quiet dates before and whilst not expected they have upgraded us for free as the rooms would only be empty and guess what? We remembered that kind gesture. Overall it seems Sundays here they don’t bother with so if you need to stay on a quieter night try another Hotel. On the plus side the pool is nice and the breakfast was fine as well. Maybe we were wrong and there was an army of silent assassins all sleeping to be ready for some sort of War on Monday lunchtime but why the hell place your guests in the corner of a massive hotel as far away as possible knowing what a chore it is to get too and carry your luggage?
