"Bit dated needs a refurb but okay for few nights"

6.0

We booked a family room as this looked more spacious than the double room. The room we were given was room 16 the room itself was very dated with wooden headboards. The bathroom wasn’t great as had lots of cracks in the tiles and wasn’t in very good condition. There was also some brown damp markings on the ceiling. I really expected better for the amount of money that I had paid to stay at this hotel. We left the room and went to the bar when we came back to the room there was an overwhelming smell of damp which neither of us could bear so left the room again. Spoke to hotels.com about this and they promptly sorted it out with the hotel. The receptionist moved us to room 12 which in comparison was much better compared to the previous room as it was more modern and had been refurbished. We were also given complimentary breakfast for the two nights of our stay as an apology for what had happened. The receptionist was very apologetic and couldn’t do enough to help us. All the staff at the hotel were very helpful throughout our stay. The leisure facilities were good but unfortunately the steam room wasn’t working so this was a bit disappointing. The sauna was very good and the pool and jacuzzi were also good. Again, perhaps the changing rooms could do with a refurb as they were a bit dated but overall would recommend the leisure facilities.

The rooms badly need updating. The bathroom in particular is very old fashioned and needs upgrading. It wasn’t helped because there was no room or bathroom cleaning during our stay. The hotel is saved by the location and the large free car park.

"Needs some improvement "

The hotel is dated but clean and it was convenient for a wedding taking place nearby. Reception staff friendly enough but staff at breakfast were rude and unhelpful, absolutely everything too much trouble for them. Would certainly put me off returning.

"Very good 3-star hotel, clean and comfortable"

8.0

In general good enough, it's a 3 star hotel and you get what you pay for, a little bit tired "around the edges", but suitably clean, friendly helpful staff. I have noted other people saying it wasn't clean and noisy, but we did not experience that at all, but we were on the ground floor as I'm disabled so require an accessible room, which was totally adequate. Beds comfortable, breakfast is really good, apart from the coffee which was dreadful, but then I have high standards when it comes to filter coffee. They did have a different menu to last time we stayed and it sounded nicer than it turned out, starters and desert was good, but main course average and steeply priced for what it was, so we didn't eat there the 2nd night but ate with family, which is why we were there in the first place, to visit family. We've stayed before and will again, it's good enough, it's not 4 star or more, so I think some people who's left bad reviews might be misinformed about what rating the hotel is, customer satisfaction ratings collated on this website hasn't got anything to do with the actual star rating of the hotel. And they are a good 3 star hotel, with lots of extras (spa/gym etc.) Good COVID hygiene practice in place, so no worries there.

Worst shower I have every experienced in a hotel, despite complaining it did not get resolved, clearly need to find a balance with being eco friendly and comfort. The instructions in the hotel are not clear especially during COVID

"Great location disappointing hotel"

4.0

Location was great, half way between Oxford and the Costwolds, just off the A40 and a mile walk from Witney town centre. Reception staff were friendly but messed up our time slots in the pool. One not booked & one written down as a different time to the booking, check out was a mess We booked an upgraded room which was okay but the carpets were filthy and a design flaw with the shower meant that the bathroom flooded with every shower and the bottom 5 inches of the door were completely blown from regular exposure to water. We stayed 3 nights & although I understand that due to covid other hotel staff are not going into the rooms during your stay to limit exposure but this wasn't mentioned at check in and we were only left with one a half loo rolls and about 6 tissues for our stay and tea/coffee etc was not replenished. The food was okay but on our last night they were out of pizza bases and down to their last portion of curry & no lime or soda. The bar tender was not very good, he had to keep repeating your orders and still got them wrong. He started making orange squash and lemonade instead of orange juice and then asked if he could use the same glass to remake it. Tables were not cleaned properly, I watched two being wiped around the salt and pepper and a fork dropped on the floor while setting the table that was placed back on the table without being cleaned. I know it has been a difficult time for hotels but the hygene standards should be a top priority and they weren't.

For the price we paid for the room we were expecting good quality and value for money. Sadly it was the opposite, the rooms are very dated and small, they smell musty and in all honesty need to be totally re modernised. If the room rate was cheaper it would do the accommodation justice but for the price we paid it was very disappointing.
