Quality Inn & Suites Houghton Downtown

The location of the hotel is excellent. The carpeting in the rooms is worn and definitely needs replacing. The bathroom also needs updating and the shower curtain smelled sour.

Only room available due to graduation at college. Rate extraordinarily inflated. Building floor uneven. Loud echoing children running on stairs. One ice machine right outside our room. Only large enough for one person to move about room at a time. Bathroom tiny. Mold along baseboard. Opened a dresser drawer and shocked at something growing inside. Nearly fell or tripped several times. Unsafe for elderly or disabled individuals.

We were really impressed with the breakfast at this hotel. Overall the rooms were nice. Unfortunately it was crowded with college students due to a competition happening at the Michigan Tech campus so the pool was basically unusable, but that is not the hotel's fault.

The rooms were a tad small for the amount of people we had staying (3 in each 2 queen bed room). That was our only complaint.

Hot tub, pool, and sauna facility is right up there as one of the best hotel pool facilities I've been to.

It smells bad of weed in the hallway

The property is located conveniently in downtown Houghton, MI. There are several restaurants that are easily accessible by walking. The lobby looked up to date and had hot cocoa, coffee, and fresh baked cookies for guests. The gentleman who was working the front desk was friendly and helpful. Our room was on the third floor, however there was no access to the elevator from the lobby. We had to go outside and enter from a different door to use the elevator. We had a lot of stuff with us and we decided it was easier to use the elevator. When we arrived we knew there would be snow, however it was very snow covered in the parking lot and that made it challenging to use the hotel cart. Our room smelled musty when we entered and there were areas where the trim was coming off the walls. It appeared clean but we struggled with the smell. The beds were soft and comfortable. We did get a good nights sleep while we were there. We specifically booked this hotel because my younger daughter loves to swim and it has a pool. The pool looked like it needed a good cleaning. I’m not sure if it was a filter issue but we were skeptical of spending any significant time in it. The breakfast was appreciated but left something to be desired. The best item was the make your own waffles. If we return to Houghton we will probably stay somewhere else.
