Shrigley Hall Hotel

The location was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful and interesting. I used to know one of the monks from when it was a monastery.

It wasn't clear when I booked that I would have to pay for the swimming pool. I enjoyed using it but it needs a little more light and more signs as the first time it was slightly intimidating.

We booked Shrigley Hall for a special occasion and we were really disappointed. The grounds are stunning, but the inside is tired with many corridors stinking of cigarettes. The carpets were filthy. The room was actually very modern and we were looking forward to our meal. When the food arrived, my dish was cold and my sisters’ sides were also cold. I had the seabass and it had clearly been under the pass too long whilst the aubergine Parmesan was being cooked. We were reluctant to send back, but we’re left with little choice. They ended up making everything from scratch again which took another hour. After a two hour wait, the food came and although it was hot, my seabass was bland and the bean dish is honestly something that could have been made in a food tech class. Absolutely not worth the £24 price tag. We asked if we could lie by the pool but couldn’t because we had to pay the full spa fee despite my sister being pregnant and not able to use those facilities. The beds were very comfortable, which we were really pleased with. But when we entered to breakfast, the same food problems returned. All the fruit looked poor, mushrooms not cooked thoroughly and little choice for a healthy option. It’s really disappointing because the hotel has huge potential, but it really wasn’t great for the price. Certainly not a four star. We made the most of our trip but wouldn’t rush back. Gutted as we’d been looking forward to it.

We stayed thanks to a gift from our daughter. Luckily we did upgrade to a suite but sadly there is a lot of upgrading needed. There were some great. Staff coupled with a few that possibly need more training. My burger was pretty good. My wife had steak which was very chewy and we had to send the béarnaise sauce back as it was very poor and even had dried tarragon on it. Overalll we would go back. It seems to do well from rowdy drunk golf trippers and weddings. Not one for a decent couples night away.

Nothing, the rooms was very dated booked a double deluxe and we got a room with 2 single beds in it , the room itself needed major renovations.

Staff, atmosphere and the setting are all superb. My late arrival request for food met and, in fact, very well made (delicious), and served; thanks too to the young man running the bar for his effective professionalism. I also liked being woken up by a beautiful peacock's call.

The setting and historical building were uniquely lovely. The decor ( pink & orange wall and radiators in the bar area?, a range of old unloved carpets) needs a more holistic, simple refreshment. It could be wonderful.

Brilliant meal at Shrigley Hall Restaurant. Lizzie was an exceptional host — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The rest of the staff were incredible too, creating a relaxed, well‑run atmosphere. Highly recommend.
