We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The hospitality extended by the staff was as friendly as it was professional and absolutely deserves a special mentioning. We did not have a chance to dine at the hotel but the breakfast was wonderful. We will certainly be back when we return to Bath next.

"Great stay! "

Beautiful place in a lovely setting outside of central Bath. The place is so well kept. Obviously not a new building but everything looks new. Quiet and comfortable. We would stay again.

"A touch of class in Bath"

10.0

A wonderful setting and service to match. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated with a good-size bathroom. All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Dinner was served in the conservatory and was excellent. Breakfast, served in an adjacent building, was enjoyable as well.

"Wonderful staff and stay close to Bath"

10.0

We stopped for 1 night at Bailbrook House during a visit to Bath. We were welcomed by Debby on arrival who was covering for the usual receptionist Deborah. Debby was love and talked to us about Bath and walked us to our room, showing us where everything located . We also received a courtesy call from Deborah too. The room was excellent with a lovely bed and everything we could need. Dinner in the restaurant was nice, we could choose or mix and match from the bar and/or restaurant menu. Unfortunately my wife wasn’t feeling too well so just had a starter which we ended up taking back to the room. Staff again were helpful and provided a cover and cutlery . I had the burger which was excellent. Breakfast was lovely with lots on offer and agin really helpful and friendly staff. All of the staff were lovely and welcoming. If we visit Bath again we would not hesitate to stop here and would look out for other hotels in the chain too.

A lovely stay here. It was my mums 85th Birthday and they upgraded her room to a huge suite which she was most pleased with. Very quiet hotel. Lovely bar and restaurant. 10 minutes by car into the city…Baths famous traffic didn’t really materialise for us which was also a relief.

"'Hand Picked' hotel - very expensive with delusions of luxury and quality."

4.0

The Bailbrook is not a luxury hotel, it is an upmarket, very expensive, luxurious Bed and Breakfast establishment with Room Service - and the breakfasts are less than adequate. Do not be misled by the 'Hand-Picked' title. This implies selectivity but is simply the surname of the owners, Mr and Mrs Hands, being adapted to impress. I have given it one star as the internal and external presentations are immaculate. The bedroom was large and the bed comfortable. However two TV channels that I prefer suffered constant interference despite the prompt attention of a very helpful maintenance man. There were no instructions on how to control the air conditioning. Everything was served with such ludicrous pretention. On the Friday evening we ordered from room service. It came under two huge cloches which were lifted with a flourish, to-reveal a perfectly acceptable, but ordinary sandwich and wrap. The choice of breakfast in the Lansdown restaurant was prolific, but the bacon was cold and hard, as were the fried eggs. I was told that I could have ordered a freshly cooked meal, but this was not offered, nor did I see any sign of such being served. When we took breakfast on the Saturday morning a very keen-eyed waitress, who I think was probably in some authority, noticed that I had moved the bacon onto the side plate, quietly telling my partner that it was cold. The young lady heard (I was not making waves or an issue but we were sitting next to the check-in desk) came and took my side plate and the bacon away. She returned several minutes later and said “I’ve told the chef”. I expect she asked if she could get me another plate, but by that time I’d finished the other items I’d taken from the buffet and declined the probable offer. I am dining out on this next event! I went through, in retrospect, the farcical process of booking dinner for the Saturday evening with reception. After the bookings were checked I was told there was space and my booking accepted. I had brought a jacket and tie imagining a proper dinner service in the Lansdown restaurant where breakfast was served. When I went to the Lansdown it had been roped off. I enquired at the nearby bar and was told the Lansdown was not in use and my booking was with the bar, but no table had been laid. At 19.00 on the Saturday night, I was the only one eating – what a good job the receptionist checked availability! I ordered mushroom soup which was weak and the ‘Chef’s Special’ Chicken Tikka Marsala which was just awful, both served with a flourish under a cloche. I left half and the waiter asked if I would like anything instead, which I declined. The response from the hotel management is that I should have been offered the ‘Seasonal menu’ where I could enjoy a menu of “modern British classics or Hand Picked Favourites” which I assume means Hand Picked believe these dishes are significantly better prepared than the ‘Chef’s Special’. Really? The Bar and Lounge menu is available throughout the hotel (except for breakfast although Trip Adviser says it is) and is simply the Room Service menu in a different cover. Same book, different cover. Hence making it totally obvious that the Bailbrook is an up market, over-priced B&B - with Room Service. I met various members of staff from receptionists, food and beverage staff, housekeeping, maintenance and all (with one disappointing exception) were friendly, welcoming and wanting to help. For this I’ve added another star. I’ve asked “what is it about my stay at the Bailbrook, costing over £500 for two nights including disappointing food, which supports your assertion that it is a luxury hotel’? I’ve had no response.
