Hotel Monterrey

This was truly a great experience. The hotel is very old colonial style with beautiful decor on the inside. Shower in the room is heavenly! The real bonus for us was the rooftop with bar/terrace overlooking the big square and old town below where you can watch the crowd go by and enjoy the sunset. There also is a roof top pool with enough sunbeds and a great atmosphere.

Perfect location right in the middle of the city. Walking distance to the walled city and Getsemani. Beautiful building, warm water!!

The location was perfect for us as we are not beach people. Our room looked out over the big plaza and was perfect for viewing the NYE fireworks. The hotel is very pretty on the outside. The pool and sundeck were very nice. All of the staff were pleasant and nice. The bed was very comfortable. Access to walled city and Getsemane was perfect. Easy to get a taxi to go to the beach areas.

Unfortunately, the hot water in shower was sporadic. The breakfast was very basic. The room could use a little paint touch up on walls and wardrobe.

The hotel was in a very convenient location in a walking distance from both the Old City and the Getsemani area (~10 minutes walk). It’s also close to the port from where the boats are leaving to Rosario Islands. The room was clean and quite big, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool bar, which we did not use but maybe helpful to know.

The breakfast was very basic, mainly a couple of fruits, omelet, some mini pastries and drinks. It opened at 6.30 and if you arrived an hour later most of the food was gone and not replaced. If you are vegetarian you only have fruits and bread as an option. I would recommend adding some honey and some richer options in the pastries to improve (cake, biscuits). As already mentioned, the hotel is near the entrance to the Old City, therefore, the rooms on the front are very very noisy. If you are a light sleeper or sensitive to sounds you will not rest. The rooms are not well soundproofed and you can loudly hear anyone who goes to their room, or walk in the stairs.
