Rowhill Grange Hotel & Utopia Spa

I’ve visited Rowhill Grange a few times over the years. On this occasion I was here for an overnight spa break and it’s the first time I’ve been back in a few years. My first impression in stepping inside was ‘what have the done to the decor?!’ It used to have a cosy feel but now it feels cold, soulless, corporate and dated. With pale laminate flooring, textured wallpaper and horrible silver and turquoise ‘wall art’ the bar/lounge area felt like something from the year 2000. The restaurant has similar with dated artwork, and felt cold and characterless. Despite being an old and beautiful country house, the interior has no character left, other than a couple of old fireplaces which weren’t lit. We might as well have been in a modern, city centre chain hotel, rather than what should be a cosy country retreat. It needs rich, warm tones, dark wooden floors, rugs and panelling. Decor aside, it’s a nice hotel. Dinner was delicious, staff friendly, bed comfy. The approach as you drive to the hotel is beautiful, as are the grounds and outdoor space. The spa hasn’t changed in all the years I’ve been visiting. The pool space is very nice but is looking a little tired in places eg. Bubbling paintwork around the pool area, loungers are old. Overall it just needs some investment to bring it home to date so it can compete with other spa hotels.

We booked the hotel as it is a convenient meeting point for my parents and in-laws to celebrate my 40th birthday. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend the hotel and I'm sure we'll be back! Keep up the great work - and thank you for signing Happy Birthday to me at dinner!

I booked a spa break at Rowhill Grange Spa and Hotel through SpaSeekers and the experience was completely misrepresented. The spa was small, poorly maintained, and unclean. We found dirty plastic cups around the jacuzzi, cloudy water in both the pool and jacuzzi, rubbish bags by spa exits, and dirty floors and drain covers. There were no loungers by the pool and seating was limited and uncomfortable. The hotel itself was also below standard, with worn carpets, shabby paintwork, and a cracked bath and grubby sink plug in our room. We raised our concerns with the spa manager, who refused any reimbursement and offered no apology. Due to the unacceptable conditions, we checked out early and did not use the overnight stay or breakfast included in the package. Although SpaSeekers later issued only a partial refund, this does not reflect the extent of the issues or the fact that much of the service was unused. The experience fell far below what was advertised. I would not recommend SpaSeekers based on misleading promotional material and poor resolution when problems arise.

I hosted a celebration here in January 2026. From early stages planning to on the day execution, everyone was so helpful and attentive. Big shout out to Emilia for all the pre-planning help and to the wonderful team who ran the day and made sure we were well looked after.

The staff are very helpful. Parking is good. The rooms have not changed much since my last visit in 2014.

The restaurant needs a different menu and fix the aircon. It was warmer outside.

We have just been for the worst afternoon tea I have ever been served. We took my nana for her 90th birthday and the food was well below par for a very expensive afternoon tea. Sandwiches were dry, chicken pesto had little taste except oil and the egg sandwich was covered in the green oil from the pesto. Clotted cream was sour and split and the smell of cheese was very strong. Complained to waiter who agreed and apologised and fetched some more cream, this again was off with a strong smell of cheese. New waiter came over agreed it smelt bad and apologised and came back having spoken to the chef who told him it’s not off but a new clotted cream that has a sour smell. Unacceptable, clotted cream definitely doesn’t smell of cheese. You would not drink cheesy milk or cream so how is that acceptable? Someone else came to ask if everything was okay and we said about the clotted cream and he just shrugged us off and walked away? Really disappointing and won’t be returning or recommending. We have been offered a return visit for 2 despite paying for 4 and only half the tea being edible.
