Boarders Inn & Suites by Cobblestone Hotels - Wautoma

Positives: Clean rooms and common areas, reasonably comfortablle bed/bedding, OK basic free breakfast, pleasant staff, best option in Wautoma. Not-so-positives: We arrived at 5:30 and our room was not available for check-in, our room's refridgerator was kind of a mess (had someone defrosted it? Lots of melted water AND sheets of ice.), inoperative ice machine---in the whole facility, shampoo out. Next time we're up here, we'll give it another shot, because those things can be fixed, but this stay was wee bit bumpy.

Seeing as there are only 2 hotels in the area, my choices were limited-due to a wedding near Wautoma. I chose Borders-but perhaps was NOT the best choice. I read the other reviews-and wonder "did you really stay here?" "Did you not see or smell the things I did?" First off, very outdated for the cost! Secondly much work needs to be done to the hotel and the rooms! Stains, spots, not clean--as evident by the wash rag still hanging on the shower curtain holder in the corner! GROSS! Bed not comfortable and just felt VERY unclean. Oh, and did I mention the cold water? Started first at the sink, but then I had a very cold shower that morning! Please use some of the highly "upcharged" money you make from your guests and do some MAJOR renovations and repairs! And forgot to mention, by the time we got to breakfast at 8 am, there was hardly a drop of anything left. Really?

As an avid traveler with an open mind for errors this may go down as the most unprofessional and disappointing experiences I’ve ever encountered. Reserved months in advance for a wedding with 2 double beds for my family of 4. Upon arrival our room was given away and we were offered a king bed. I politely told her there were 4 of us and that would NOT work. Reception grabbed her stuff and literally walked out and told me someone would be there in 15 minutes to deal with me. 25 minutes later and no workers at the hotel the maintenance manager arrived (who had only been employed for 2 days) he wasn’t able to check anyone in, change rooms or do anything but maintenance. He was polite and apologetic but called the manager. In the end they were completely dumbfounded as to what they would do and ultimately I was not able to stay at the hotel with the wedding party. Keep in mind there are only 2 hotels in this city. I would give this place a 2 star if they had my reservation but the indelibly poor customer service earns them a 1 star. On a side note I am still trying to get my credit card refunded.

Bugs in the linens, dirty linens still hanging in the bathroom, blood stains on pillows, rundown furniture that hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. And that’s just the first room. After we asked to be moved, the second room has splatters of go knows what on the walls and a heavy smell of smoke. I had to run out and get air freshener. The hot tub was filled with all sorts of disgusting things at the bottom. I feel very unclean being here and could not get comfortable. I pride myself on being fair and not overly fussy when it comes to cleanliness but I’m at my limit here. I’m not sure how this place got an 8. Whoever rated it before was being generous or paid off.

The receptionist Rosa who checked us in was awesome Our room that we originally booked had some issues with the key..i asked if there were any other rooms available...she checked and there was one, unfortunately it was not ready but she said she would try and work some magic and she did! Found us another room that was ready. She went out of her way to accommodate us. Friendly professional, great personality, made us feel welcome.

1st they said my July reservation was canceled in June. I did not cancel in fact I guaranteed it through Hotels.com. Then they finally found me a room for three nights. Room was in disrepair. Broken tp dispenser, dirty moldy shower drain and shower head, wet carpet and floor. Dirty and stained furniture. The staff appeared understaffed and overworked having multiple jobs like manning the desk, taking reservation calls, washing towels/sheets, preparing the breakfast and removing trash. Owner needs to update the property if they want to stay in business much longer.

Rooms are out of date & worn. Upon arrival the toilet lid was broken on the seat & just put back on for us to find. Reported to staff so they didn’t think we did it. Staff was friendly & available. Breakfast was typical, person setting it up was friendly & helpful. Would probably not return just because of condition of rooms.

In town for wedding and room was not available by 3:00 PM. It seems like my room was the last one to get cleaned and we were late for the ceremony. 😡
