Barceló Puerto Vallarta - All Inclusive

My Wife and I are seasoned travelers in our mid 60's. Stayed in premium class for a week in February. Used the premium benefits for room service for breakfast on the balcony and premium alcohol in out drinks. We didn't use the premium lounge and it was not very useful booking a la carte restaurants. Long story but BOOK ALL OF YOUR A LA CARTE SUPPERS WHEN YOU BOOK IN. We only managed to get a couple of a la carte restaurants booked and found them, along with the Los Arco Snack for lunch, very good. The buffet was not very good at all. The pools are very nice and the water is a comfortable temperature. Not a lot of activities at the pool and the music isn't blaring like at many resorts. The evening entertainment at 9 PM was decent and later there was band in a bar until 11 PM. There's not much for beach with no palapas or lounge chairs so don't expect to relax by the ocean. Water excursions are easy to book right on them beach where you also depart from. We were lucky enough to view whales in the bay right from the resort one day. A word of caution......This resort is notorious for people getting sick and it seems to be normal to regulars of the resort. My Wife and I both got sick with vomiting at night and Diarrhea for a full day. I have never seen it effect so many people throughout the resort over the course of the week that we were there. Be prepared and bring meds to deal with it. The employees at the resort were nice and very friendly. I would like to give a individual mention to a few people that stood out. Gustavo, one of the managers was very professional in dealing with an issue that we had and earned my respect. Alfredo at the swim up bar was always fun and happy and kept us in drinks. Luis Elizondo, a great waiter at Los Arcos was absolutely hilarious and had us in stitches. Oscar Martinez was another waiter at Los Arcos that really impressed us. The young lady with the braces on her teeth getting our drinks at the adult pool was hard working and very nice as well (I wish that I had taken her name). The bottom line for us is that our stay was not terrible but it wasn't that great either. It was advertised to us as a 5 Star resort but it is a solid 4 Star. Not the end of the world but in the future I will pay a little more to visit a better resort.

Great trip and great service by Moises every day by the pool. The sun was hot and the drinks were cold! We will definitely be back when visiting Puerto Vallarta.

The location, food and services provided were exceptional considering the cost of the trip. Great vacation value.

The restaurant reservation process was difficult and the buffet was only ok. The bed pillows were uncomfortable.

The pool bartenders amazing, food below average menu didn’t change much breakfast was the best option. Facilities was to small for the amount of guest. Acitivites was below average energy of the place was very low. We wouldn’t recommend this place to nobody.

To far from downtown, food was way below average.

I stayed at this hotel for one week with my family, as a group of 24 other families (all with school aged children). Of 24, 22 of the other families got violently ill on the property. Many other guests we encountered experienced the same sickness. We aren’t sure if it was water, food, norovirus, or a combination. I can say that I saw a little girl throw up in the pool, and nothing was cleaned up or done to address that issue. I can also say that iguanas frequently pooped right next to the pool, which was never cleaned up. Sick individuals were left to fend for themselves - which meant eating at the buffet. Suffice it to say, sanitation was not a priority at this hotel, and it showed. Staff seemed unconcerned and unbothered by these complaints. One has to assume this type of thing happens frequently. In addition, the food was terrible. The buffet seemed unsanitary, lacked choices, and offered things at the wrong temperature and/or marked as beyond their expiration date. Sit down restaurants seemed better but restaurant reservations were incredibly difficult to obtain, often “selling out” at 9am on a given day despite never being at capacity in the evenings. The default left one eating at the awful buffet or leaving the property - which is what we did most days. Other smaller things were not great - there aren’t enough beach chairs for the guests, and those available are old and uncomfortable. There was a large leak in the gym that went unaddressed for days. The entertainment is loud all day long, and well into the night. My AC and my phone went out at points in the stay. But any of these things is preferable to getting violently ill and not something I’d have otherwise reviewed. I would seriously caution anyone contemplating this hotel to look elsewhere.

Our family had a great time with Barcelo Puerto Vallarta. The hotel is a bit older, but the facility is clean and well maintained. The rooms are also very spacious. We were on the premium floor and the room had basically two sections with a shared bathroom in the middle. Very handy for families to spread out. The room was also facing the pool and the beach, it was quite special. The folks at Barcy (the kids club) really made the experience something special. Karlos and Maria are a phenomenal team and are absolutely great with the kids. They worked tirelessly day and night to make sure kids are entertained. The activities were stimulating and ranged from games on the beach, to arts and crafts, to swimming games, to baking cookies. The kids also had the opportunity to be a part of the entertainment dancing by the pool. There were also events at night, including tiki parties, piñata, games with prizes, etc. The kids club (Barcy) with Karlos and Maria is something truly special. Our sons continue to us about going back to see Karlos and Maria to this day. Thank you Karlos and Maria for making our stay truly special. Location-wise, the hotel is about 50 mins - 1 hour south of the airport and is quite a ways from PV. The views are amazing but the beach is a bit on the smaller size without much ability for long beach walks. Overall, we enjoyed our time at this resort especially given the kids really enjoyed their time.
