Hilton Vacation Club San Luis Bay Avila Beach

Such a beautiful location. Even though they were doing construction during our stay, it was minimal inconvenience, and exciting to see the future improvements to the property.

As a Hilton Rewards Member, I always use the Hilton Brand when traveling. This was unfortunately a bad experience however. When I booked the hotel a few months prior, I requested an ocean view room, but did not receive it. I asked why, and the girl at check in told me that time share owners have priority and I was ultimately bumped. I did not know of this until check in. I also did not know that the hotel was under major renovation. The entire lobby was walled off, loud construction was ongoing, half the parking lot was filled with garbage and construction workers, and we had to use the very slow service elevators. None of this was mentioned when I booked the room. The room itself was good, with the exception of the coffee pot, it was plugged up and did not work properly. I wouldn't normally complain about something like that, but hey when you make this many mistakes, full disclosure should be had. Finally, as a Hilton Rewards member, I never received my rewards points from this property. I stayed at a Hilton Brand Hotel the following weekend in Aptos and received my points from them, but nothing from this hotel. I had to call Hilton and be on the phone for approximately 40 minutes to receive my points. All in all, the location is wonderful, the area around the hotel is incredible, but my experience was not what I expected. I wish the hotel would have let me know ahead of time about the construction, about the non-ocean view room I was going to be put in and about the front desk who would fail to credit my Hilton Rewards account after my stay. If I had known these things ahead of time, I would have canceled my stay there and booked a room elsewhere.

The rooms we stayed in were spacious and clean. The only downside was the toilet in the bathroom. You are almost sitting on the floor when using the toilet.

The peaked roofline that obstructed the views in both rooms. Also, the construction noise. We should have been informed before we booked the room about the construction. We don’t go on vacation to hear pounding and drilling.

Location is perfect. Away from the hustle and bustle, but can walk easily to the excitement.
