"Good service, but poor parking"

6.0

I recently stayed at the SpringHill Suites in Peabody, Massachusetts. The room was fine; the hotel told me that rooms had been renovated, but our room had a few issues (like a sink handle that fell off in my hand, a loose wall plate in the sink area, etc. — nothing major). The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially resolving an issue with noisy children in our hallway. The reason I am giving the hotel three stars is because of the parking. The hotel charges for parking, but when I came back to the hotel at 10:30 pm on a Saturday evening, every single space was taken (and many people had therefore parked in areas where there weren’t spaces). I believe this is because there is a conference/event space that hosts the events that also uses the parking. Being able to count on your hotel to have parking (especially when you are paying for it) is critical for a relaxing stay, and while I did ultimately get parking, I was disappointed by this situation.

"Not a Quality Marriott Experience"

2.0

My son had his first child my first grandchild and I grabbed a flight up from Florida and burned a substantial amount of Marriott points to stay for four nights. The property is close to his house and centrally located among a strip of similar properties. When booking through Bonvoy app there was no indication the property was under remodel maintenance. Seeing only a handful of cars upon check in on a Thanksgiving Friday should have been a red flag. Check in had the front lobby unavailable for entrance with no signage on how to enter the hotel. Once checked in they informed me there is a $3.75 self-parking fee per day. My room on fifth floor was fine and clean. The construction noise was very drill and hammer prevalent until at least 5:15pm. Front desk said that would be the case Saturday and Sunday and Monday. I called Marriott that night asking if I could relocate and get points back. They informed me they could not reinstate points, but I would have to ask the hotel manager. I decided to tough it out as I was only going to sleep there at night. I had no housekeeping service even though they said it was every other day. Four days of no trash emptied or fresh towels as I arrive back after 5pm. Today on Monday I needed to stay and work in the room. They shut the water off the entire day from 9am until past 5pm as I write this. I went down at 4:30pm to ask for the front desk GM and they said he had left at 4pm for the day and they were sorry. I would choose any other location nearby and skip this Marriott property.

"Hotel under construction without guest have advanced notice"

4.0

(2) is only because the lady at the front desk was very nice. Building was under construction and I noticed workers on the lift up to 6th floor ( my room) by the window. You should be able to figure the rest. Would be helpful to let people know in advanced of booking that construction is ongoing. I left the hotel in the early afternoon after checking in while I paid in advanced.

"Wonderful stay"

8.0

We are currently staying at this hotel and have for the last 3 nights. We came here for a family trip to Salem. The hotel is very nice, spacious, and clean. The staff are amazing very friendly and always greeting you with a smile and very helpful. Breakfast in the morning is good and starts your morning off right. Only negative is pool/hot tub were under maintenance during our stay not the end of the world but we did look forward to going in hot tub. Overall very wonderful stay....close drive to Salem and very comfortable.

"Good"

6.0

We stayed here for one night when visiting Salem in October so the price was very expensive to stay. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were pretty good, the one down fall with the room was the washroom - it needed some updating and serious tlc. The bed was comfortable and the continental breakfast was decent. The pool was closed which we were slightly disappointed in but I would recommend staying here, as it was a good experience overall.

The room was clean and nicely furnished. The pool was closed for maintenance. The entrance to the parking lot was dark and hard to see from the road.

"Not great"

6.0

I had to wait at the front desk to check in while two employees were chatting about non work related things. I travel a lot and this is the first non city hotel that charges for parking. The room was ok but did look like it had been vacuumed in a while. There were crumbs throughout and a rather disgusting looking stain on the sofa. I won’t be staying here again.

There was no hot water to shower. Expedia did not help me dispute this with property, but expected for me to pay for the room.

"Do not stay here!"

2.0

The room smelled like smoke and the cleaning products used to mask the smell. Burn marks on the desk, carpet, and couch. Bed was lumpy. And the worst part was the next morning when there was no hot water for a shower because the boiler was broken. On a positive note, the staff was accommodating and efficient. You just give them nothing to work with. I recommend that senior leadership stay overnight at the hotel. It would be eye-opening!
