"Amazing trip!"

Third time here and as always we had an amazing trip. The royal club was awsome. Hipolito, Wendy, Dileiny, Fabiona, Estefony and Condy we especially appreciated! (Hope I spelled your names correct) We will for sure see you again.

"Royal treatment at the Royal Club"

The royal club restaurant was excellent in the quality of food and the staff were friendly and attentive and very helpful. We had great service from Hipolito, Wendy, Dileiny, Fabriana , Estefany and Conoly . Royal club beach bar and the beach was wonderful and nicely kept with friendly staff as well.

"This is the pace to go!"

Wendy, Hipolito, Ederis, along with Pamela and Samuel at the bar, truly made this the best trip ever. From recognizing us right away to having our drinks ready as we approached, their attention to detail was exceptional. We absolutely love this place—and we especially love that Wendy is still here; he’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back!

"LOVED"

Honeymooned here and it was Amazing. We were in the royal level and it's 100% worth it. The restaurant is amazing. The beach is so clean. Each night wasn't complete without an espresso martini in the first club with Yeraldin!! She was so friendly and her drinks were always THE BEST!!

"Nice Resort but lacks in a resort stay"

Pool, rooms, atmosphere was good but the buffet lacked significantly based on other resorts I have been to. Breakfast and lunch needs upgrading but dinner at restaurants is a must. Also lacks service around pools. Every resort I have been to have people walking around taking drink orders and attending to you. I did not see one person doing this.

"Occidental Punta Cana"

The resort was very beautiful and the grounds were very well maintained. We enjoyed eating at the restaurants, however, the buffets didn't have the best quality. The pools were amazing and they had entertainment for the kids, bounce houses, obstacle courses, foam party, etc. The rooms were nice but we felt that they always felt damp, the shower constantly leaked water. We were able to use the towels to put down to keep the floor dry (easy fix). Sadly we had an incident that occurred on the resort that required security. We felt that the resort took the situation very seriously and handled it with professionalism and empathy.

If you're reading the reviews, take note of the patronizing responses of the Occidental's manager, Orestes. All his responses follows the same theme: apologizing for your bad experience, thanking you for your compliments, and the catcher, inviting you to return. His managerial position is beyond his abilities because reading the 2026 reviews shows nothing has changed since my visit in 2025. His failure to bring this 3.5 star resort up to the 5 star level it's claimed to be is misleading to vacationers. The reviews about the food, the dwellings, the entertainment, the language barrier, the gift shop etc, etc are all true and then some.

"**Disappointing Experience – Not True “Royal Level” & Serious Health Incident**"

I traveled to Punta Cana with my husband, teenage daughter, my son with special needs, and my parents in their mid-70s. We booked three *Royal Level* rooms expecting a higher standard of accommodations and service. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, the experience did not meet expectations. Upon check-in, we were informed that all three of our rooms would be located in Building 26, which was described as a “new” Royal section. However, this building is clearly not comparable to the actual Royal Level areas. It is far from the Royal restaurant and bars, and our rooms were spread out (two on the 3rd floor and one on the main floor), which was especially challenging given our family’s needs. **Room Issues:** * Room 26218: safe and coffee maker did not work, hole in the bathroom ceiling, hole in the wall where the hair dryer should be, chipped tiles, and a ceiling leak during rain. * Room 26215: patio doors leaked badly during rain, requiring us to use towels to prevent water from reaching the bed; hallway roof also leaked. * My parents’ room: coffee maker and room phone did not work, though otherwise acceptable. * No bathmats in any rooms, and showers leaked onto the bathroom floors. The minibar was very basic (Coke, Sprite, beer, and water), with **no juice or healthier beverage options available anywhere on the resort**, which was disappointing for a family stay. There was plenty of water supplied daily. **Important Note:** Simply placing a “Royal Level” sign on these doors does not make this a Royal experience. These rooms need renovation before being marketed at this level. **Other Downsides:** * Wi-Fi was unreliable and only worked about half the time. * Lack of attention to maintenance and overall room quality. **Positives:** * The beach is absolutely beautiful! * The Royal Restaurant and Royal Beach Bar were very good. The Royal Beach bar has premium liquor and friendly staff members. * The Pizzeria was also very good but only open at 6pm to 6am and always a line up during dinner. The most serious part of our trip and most upsetting was that four days into our stay, my father contracted **salmonella poisoning**, which became very severe. He contracted this from something he ate at the resort. He was hospitalized at IMG Hospital for 7 days, including 3 days in ICU. The resort’s response to this medical emergency was extremely disappointing: * The room phone did not work 26123, so I had to go to the front desk to request medical help. The girl at the desk did not seem to understand the word 'emergency' * The resort doctor who was kind and spoke good English but initially dismissed his condition as dehydration or sunstroke and prescribed him electrolyles (At a fee of $300 USD). She even brought a credit card machine to the room to ensure payment. * When his condition worsened a few hours later we had to have him transported. * We did receive assistance from staff to get him to a golf cart and into a taxi although I had requested a wheel chair to enable him to keep his dignity as he could not walk they did not have one available. * He was then taken to the front gate via golf cart and sent to the hospital in a regular taxi. This was our first time leaving the resort and we did not know what to expect. During his stay in the hospital (which requires another detailed review), we tried to extend our stay at the resort to remain close while he was hospitalized, we received *no meaningful assistance or follow-up* from either the Royal or main reception. Despite multiple requests and promises of a call or text, no one ever followed up. We ultimately left the resort on our scheduled check out day, rescheduled our flights and booked an Airbnb for the remaining nights. To add to this already difficult experience, my suitcase was ransacked at the Punta Cana airport upon arrival, with multiple brand name clothing items stolen and personal belongings disturbed. My son's protein bars even had a BITE taken out of one of them. In summary, this trip was incredibly disappointing, primarily due to the serious illness my father experienced from the FOOD and the lack of support from the resort during a critical situation. IF we had we had the opportunity to stay in the actual Royal Level accommodations, I believe our experience may have been very different—but what we received was not reflective of what we paid for. I would not return to this resort, and unfortunately, this experience has made me hesitant to even visit Punta Cana again.

"Excellence at Barcelo by Dean and Diane"

Excellent service and outstanding staff. Royal level provides wonderful support and and service. Dileynys ,Wendy, hipolito, Stephanie, candy , Fabiana are exceptional could not be better they are the best!!
