"Very bad hotel please do not stay"

2.0

I could give you 1 piece of advice DO NOT GO. It is not worth your hard earned money. The check in process was not smooth, the staff didn’t seem to know what was going on. When we first got to the room we were initially impressed and then we started to notice things. The dirty grouting then mould on the walls and in the shower. We used shoes as it did not feel clean to walk on. We had to call maintenance 4 times in our 10 day stay. Despite this the aircon continued to leak and the shower leaked on the floor of the bedroom when used. The pool area was very overcrowded we didn’t manage to get a sun lounger unless we woke and were down at 7am the food was 5 out of 10 the worst being windows and the La Cala restaurant (which is worse as you have to pay for that one) If you’re thinking about upgrading to the sun club, SAVE YOUR MONE! It’s not worth it. We were complimentary upgraded but our room had more issues than my family staying in the standard room. The room service food taste very bad especially the breakfast. On one occasion they forgot about my order and when they did bring it the bread was rock hard and stale. The sun club pool doesn’t have any exclusivity, there was no one checking if you were a sunclub member. If I had paid I would have been annoyed. Honestly the best part about the holiday was leaving

Everything is good in general, but I would give Club members special bracelets. Otherwise, people are mixed up everywhere and it is not clear what you are paying more money for.

"Wonderful experience all around"

10.0

Sunscape Dominicus exceeded all of our expectations. We originally booked at another resort and were very disappointed when we arrived there. On our second day at the original resort, we started searching for another option and found Sunscape Dominicus. We transferred to Sunscape the next day with very cautious high hopes. This was our first time staying at an all inclusive and didn't know what to expect. When we arrived we were welcomed immediately and escorted to the private Hyatt members only air conditioned lounge for check in. The lounge had an assortment or snacks and a private bar with premium alcohols. From there, it just continued to get better! Our rooms were spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We had a butler that attended to every need. After a rough start to our family vacation, our stay at Sunscape was perfection. We will definitely be back!

"Never Again"

4.0

After a long day of travelling and arriving at the resort the initial thoughts were that it looked good, well maintained and reception staff very pleasant. Unfortunately this is where the holiday we so looked forward to, stopped. After checking in, we were asked to join an executive club for an extra fee, a substantial fee at that, which we declined. We then went to our room a deluxe double with grand view…. A big tree in front of a balcony that was ground level and blocked off by another building, no natural light or sun and fested with flies and bugs. The hotel did approve a room change the following day, which made things slightly better. Rooms slightly dated, but not too bad, 50+ tv channels only bbc news for English. Food - Appalling, plenty of restaurants on the resort but very low quality and again not much choice for English visitors. The main restaurants are bull baits and very lucky to get a drink served and to have cutlery on the table. Unfortunately due to the sheer lack of food handling hygiene we fell unwell and have been poorly now for 7 days losing 4 days of our 10 day stay. This was also the case for a number of other families on the resort too. Onsite shops…. Due to having nothing around to venture out and purchase from, they choose the prices they want. For medication to treat food poisoning diagnosed by doctor on returning home (sickness and diarrhoea) it was $17 a box. We went through 4 boxes, cost of a chocolate bar $4 and a packet of crisps $7. A rip off and daylight robbery. Onsite facilities - Game and of pool $15 for 30 minutes. Will leave that there. Drinks - Dreadful, bar staff dreadful and ignored you unless you spoke Spanish. Entertainment - Aimed at Spanish with no interaction with English families. Overall Summary Avoid Avoid Avoid

"It’s cheaper for a reason"

4.0

The beach - very nice. Clear, blue water with no seaweed. Lots of chairs under trees to give shade instead of sitting in the blistering sun all day. There are lots of large rocks/reefs when entering the water. Most of them are polished from the water and not very sharp. But they’re very uneven and many people fall because of that. Just watch other people to find a good route in and out of the water. The pool - very large, a couple of slides, large water playground for the little ones, and 2 small kiddy pools separate. Not very clean, looks very old, impossible to get a lounger poolside unless you get up at 7-8am and reserve with your towels. Same goes for the beach. They have a card you exchange for your towels so you only have 1 towel per person. But saw many people walking up to towel stand and getting however many towels they wanted without giving any cards. That would explain why they run out of towels often and all the chairs at beach and pool are reserved with towels. Non-smoking areas - this is not enforced at all. I believe poolside is non smoking but lots of smoking all day and nobody stopping anyone. People smoking in the theater when watching a show, etc. People were vaping inside restaurants. The room - our room was extremely outdated and not in good shape. They had made attempts to update the bathrooms but very poor workmanship everywhere in the room and throughout resort. Paint and caulking everywhere, on the tiles, baseboards, etc. Housekeeping comes every day. You start with beer, soft drinks, and water in the mini fridge but they only restock the waters each day- nothing else. One day our water stopped working for several hours. One of the toilets barely flushed the entire stay. Several days we didn’t get washclothes to shower with. Stopped housekeeping and they had none clean. How do you not have enough linens for your guests to clean themselves? The food - the worst part of the trip. The sit down restaurants in the evenings are your best bet but they get very busy 7-10 with long waits. Go right when they open at 6 and no wait. Tiki taco was good, Pizza shack and Da Mario were decent. Windows is an Internatinal buffet that serves all 3 meals but they just recycle the uneaten food from the previous meals. Sometimes it was decent, other times everything was unedible. You seat yourself and hope someone will come by and get you drinks or water. Some meals we finished without ever getting anything to drink. That’s about the only place to get lunch other than a little beach side tent. Poor food handling practices everywhere. Saw staff walking around touching and handling ready to eat food with their hands. Food sits at the beach tent in buffet trays but no burners to keep them heated, cold items sit in the heat not kept cool. 3 of the 4 in our party had stomach issues while there- vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and aches. We had stayed away from drinking tap water like everyone had warned. This pretty much ruined our vacation because we spent 1.5 of 5 days in the room and decided not to do any excursions because of needing a restroom nearby just in case. Most of the staff is friendly and works to make guests feel welcome. They’ll lead water aerobics poolside, lead dance sessions, organize small games, one day they brought a mechanical bull to the pool area. You can tell they are genuinely trying to make sure the guests are having a good time. The ones that interact with the guests more speak decent English. They have several activities listed like archery, tennis, basketball, etc. Not even worth advertising. A bent basketball goal with a worn out basketball, one archery lane with old equipment. Overall, you get what you pay for. This resort is much cheaper than some of the neighboring resorts and others in Punta Cana. While most of the dinner restaurants and common areas are well kept and updated, the rooms are terrible. This is supposed to be a 4 star resort but every 3 star hotel I’ve stayed at in the U.S. was nicer than this.

"Family of 4. Brilliant time!!"

10.0

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Sunscape dominicus hotel. The staff at the hotel are so warm and friendly. We speak little Spanish but most staff spoke English and if they didn’t they would find another member of staff to interpret Our room was very clean and our maid was very helpful and kept our room well maintained We enjoyed buffet breakfast every morning. The staff in the restaurants were warm and welcoming and very attentive. The pool at times was a little cloudy but staff seemed to be cleaning it regularly. The beach is just stunning!! A few issues with findining beds in the shade at times but on the whole not an issue. It is a little rocky in area at the edge of the sea but not too difficult to navigate. The sea is warm and crystal clear We loved the entertainment team. So much fun with so much energy. The shows were great too. We particularly enjoyed the saxophonist! Well done team Our favourite member of staff was Edward ( gym staff member) he always had a massive smile on his face. So helpful even at 6 am. A credit to the hotel Unfortunately we became unwell with stomach upsets whilst we were at the hotel. Plentiful supplies and medications in the shops although can be very expensive. The dr at the 24 hours clinic was also very accessible Top tips Bring US dollars - don’t bother with peso Only drink bottled water DO NOT let any water near your mouth Visit Saona island!!! Stunning. We used delux.dr (find on Facebook) for our trip
