"A Nice, Quiet Stay"

10.0

Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, MO sent me an email yesterday to ask for a review of our stay with them Sept. 11 - 15. I found no link in the email or on their website to write a review, so I decided to post a review on Trip Advisor. We had a nice, quiet four days there. The only issues to report occurred the evening we arrived. When I made the reservation, I made a request that a refrigerator be moved into the room (refrigerators and microwaves are not provided in double rooms) for the duration of our stay. The cost for that was to be $5 for the entire stay. I called the hotel early afternoon of our arrival day to let them know we would be coming in late and also to confirm the details of our stay. I was told that a refrigerator had been moved into the room and that they were waiving the charge for our use of it. When we arrived and went to the room, no refrigerator was in there. I went down to the front desk to report that (by then it was almost 10:15 pm) and the lady there told me she would call the maintenance man and have him bring one up. I asked how late he was usually there, and I was told 10:30 pm. Shortly after I got back to the room, the maintenance guy did arrive and brought in the refrigerator. I also told him we were missing a luggage rack, and he went to get one for me saying there should have been one in the room. By that time it was then 10:30 pm - I thanked him for taking care of those things and commented that at least he was able to leave on time. He said that he had already left and the front desk lady had called him at home to return to bring the refrigerator to the room. In all fairness, she said that if she didn't catch him, she would bring one to us herself. There were no other issues during our stay. I had requested a room on an upper floor in a quiet location, and we got just that - a room on the ninth floor on the backside of the hotel away from the elevator and ice machine. We were not at the hotel during the days (we attended a family event in nearby Columbia). All things considered, once we got into our room we had a great experience staying at the Capitol Plaza Hotel.

"Never Again"

4.0

Where to start and stop reviewing this hotel is the problem. So you've traveled all day, it's after 8 p.m., you're tired, and you've drug your luggage somewhat uphill to the hotel ready to crash in your room. But wait... they don't ask for your license plate number, but you have to return to your vehicle with a vehicle pass they issue you, (and which you pay for), and leave it on the dash. (We were right about 100 yards away downhill in uncovered parking.) Having gone through a "3rd party" to book", they require a $50 deposit for incidentals, but won't take cash, so that amount is tied up on your card for a few days. But wait... they'll take the $10 parking fee out of the $50 deposit you've left on your credit card. Visually and from a little distance, everything looks quite nice, but that is not the case. Paint and touch-ups only do so much, and some things need replaced. I do not believe I've ever slept on a worse mattress in my life. (A "double room" gets you full size beds - not queens.) The pillows were rather small and not very comfortable either. No fridge - no microwave, but the bottle of water left in the room had a $6 price tag on it. (The paper on the back of the room door indicated a room cost of $229 per night.) I think we'll let some photos speak for themselves. The employee who checked us in mentioned that they offered breakfast. I asked, "is that included with the stay?", and she responded that if it was she would've told me. And when we discovered the following morning that we would not get the entire $50 deposit back because the parking fee would be taken out of that amount, the lady at the desk just smiled. All employees encountered were very pleasant and we read their replies and facial responses to indicate that they'd heard all of these complaints before, but because they had no part in these decisions, they were just being friendly. Rest assured- we will not stay at the Capitol Plaza again.

"Disappointed"

4.0

While the folks at the front desk were very kind, the quality of the room was very different. Our first room, the door was unlocked. The toilet was dirty, and the ceiling in the shower was falling down. We went and had our room switched. The second room smelled slightly of cigarette smoke, even though it was a non-smoking room. There was a hole in the ceiling in the bathroom as well as a wire sticking out on the mattress. Needless to say this is not a hotel we will stay out again.

Bedding in our room was dirty and you could tell the sheets were definitely old. Our room was pretty small compared to previous hotels we’ve stayed in. Other than that great staff and a good downtown area with restaurants and shops!

Rooms nice and clean. No paperwork for hotel amenities in room. No hotel guide. TV remote, guide button, indicated not available on TV so had to search each channel manually. Large center area with NO seating at all, just an open area, so not able to lounge about. $10/day parking charge announced at check-in, not in literature anywhere.

Staff was friendly. Room overall was clean. I could not give it five stars this time because our shower would not drain when running, even with the stopper open. It would drain as soon as the shower was turned off.

We came back to a water leak in the ceiling of our bathroom.Got moved to the 9th floor where our room stayed and and ac fan was loud.Paid alot of money for an uncomfortable stay.Wouldnt suggest staying as a last resort. The staff was friendly.
