We liked the location of Bali Kai very much but for the money we were very disappointed. The unit we stayed in was dated, old, and dark. The vertical blinds on the sliding glass door did not close 100% as several of the vertical strips were missing, and as the unit was facing the street my wife was concern with people being able to see inside. Also, our reservation was for a "Mountain Side" unit with a king size bed, and we were given a street side unit with a queen size bed so we don't really feel we got what we paid for. We choose Bali Kai because we had stayed at a Castle Resort on Kauai two years back and assumed we would get the same quality of accommodations. Bali Kai was a not even close to the Castle Resort on Kauai. I would recommend people stay somewhere else.

This property was worth exactly what we paid. We were trying to be cheap, and what we got was basically a cheap motel that happened to be next to the water. Don’t be fooled: it’s not Beachside, because you can’t actually swim on the beach - it’s mostly lava rock to the ocean with high waves, so only very experienced swimmers or surfers can actually use the shoreline there. As for the room, it had everything that we needed but in the most minimal way possible. Our blinds were broken in some spots and, being on the ground floor, made it uncomfortable that people could see into our room. The toilet worked, but the flush handle was loose. The air-conditioning worked, but was super loud. There were no dining options, but there was a poke joint right next-door that was expensive. The doors locked, but the door had to be kicked open with force every time. There was a pool, but if you were staying in one of the condos across the street, you had to cross the street and walk around the parking lot to get to it if they closed the front desk reception area already. You get the idea: everything was there and everything technically worked, but wasn’t in great condition and was definitely just meant to serve its immediate purpose. Also heads up: if you’re using a third-party booking site, they don’t tell you there’s a cleaning fee and the room does not get serviced daily - there’s an extra charge if you want to daily room cleaning service.

I actually only liked the view! I was very disappointed with the room. We got shorted a night when we booked through travelocity and our other condo was full so we had to move. Travelocity found me another room condo and paid the cost but I was stuck with the cleaning fee when it was not my mistake. Check in took 25 minutes in line because there is only one check in desk. Would not stay here again.

Didn’t expect top tier, but the condition of the property is pretty run down. Thought we were getting a room in the main building by the ocean but ended up with a satellite building on the third floor (lots of stairs!) with a balcony overlooking a busy and loud street. For the money we can do better next time.

They charge me $141 cleaning fee when I check in. They didn't bring me to my room. I have to walk around looking for the building and room number. No elevator, so I have to carry my heavy luggage and grocery up. The room was out dated. The ac was loud and didn't work that good. The wifi didn't work. They charge me for doing their job when they only clean when I check out. I think that is ridiculous charging me so much to do their job.

The sea turtles like to hang out in the coves behind the building. Great location for downtown Kona and the local beaches. The room itself could really use some upkeep. Missing slats in the blinds, shower door that doesn’t quite close, it’s really just time for some renovations. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall it had a passing grade but it’s not the greatest. That said, for the price I’d totally stay there again. I’d skip the oceanfront room for the rooms with the ac unit On the mountainside.

I booked this as a last minute overnight in Kona after spending the week in Hilo. The property looked nothing like the photos. The interior of the suite was so old, the sofa and chairs were thread bare. The carpet was old and soiled. Not what I was expecting for what I paid. The cleaning fee was as much as the room. A very disappointing end to our week after in Hawai’i

The condo is about $139 a night then you pay an additional $140 during check in for cleaning services, your total will be about $239.00. This condo is a ripoff because I could have just stayed at the Sheraton for less. Reasons way it's not worth $239 to stay here. 1. You pay an additional $140 for cleaning, but the room has ants and the pillows smell like some guy's dirt stink underarms. 2. You need to be in top physical condition because if you get stuck with the 3rd floor you have to hike up about 38 steps with your suitcases. Trust me even the most strongest athlete will break a sweat. 3. The bed was dipped in like two 800 pound people slept on each side of the bed. I never saw a bed dip in like that. If a bed needed to be thrown away it would have been the one in my room. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of this place.
