"hot room"

6.0

The room was a loft room and extremely hot. The bar was heated by an open fire, although the outside temperature was 25 degrees

"Lovely food and setting but was let down by staff!"

6.0

We visited here for my partners birthday. Hearing amazing things about this place I could not wait to try it out. We were very lucky with the weather so we started off with a drink outside. We all ordered off the three course lunch menu. Great value for money and great portion sizes to. When we were taken to the table and seated you are bombarded with staff changing cutlery bringing bread rolls out all at the same time and felt very uncomfortable. After having a starter the (frogs legs) were then given a clean napkin that was very damp and not nice. Some of the staff’s uniform were filthy and untidy some of the girls skirts were so short you could see everything when they bent over. My partner and I are both in the hospitality and catering industry and have worked in some amazing places and would not expect staff to be allowed to wear uniform like this.

"Visiting family for twin grandsons 2nd birthday."

Friendly staff, room clean and well attended but needs up updating. Kettle socket not working.Bathroom not easy to use if you have joint problems. Breakfast good but bar prices over the top. £13.50 for a glass of wine!

"You need to stop turning business away"

2.0

Stopped for something to eat for lunch. Asked if they did a light lunch but was told no but they did a lovely al a carte menu and to try the Coppa Club over the river. We did and it was excellent. I have no doubt that the food and service wouls be just as good, if not better, at the French Horn but instead of recommending a competitor, try selling yourself better.

"Charming, quirky and great value"

4.0

The reason I give 4 stars only is because of the road. Once a cart track no doubt but now a constant hum. Not that they can do anything about it, and indeed the double glazing is very efficient. But it is such a shame to be in idyllic surroundings which ought to be tranquil. That said, I really rate this place. Yes it is a bit shabby/tired but so what. Everything important is spot on. We stayed in a little cottage, wonderful. Very clean.Good bed and pillows, HUGE bathroom with double sinks, and good shower. Very comfortable. And a fabulously oddball service door arrangement (go there to find out). Sweet little outdoor space for star gazing or breakfast on a nice day. You are encouraged to have breakfast in your room which is OK (and delicious) except eating off a coffee table is not great, and tricky if you are in a group who want to eat together. There was also a wonderful fireplace with cosy fire for chilly evenings. Splendid. The staff are very professional but also friendly and helpful. The room rate is staggeringly good value and I would definitely return. The restaurant is also very good (reviewed separately). LOVED IT!

"Stunning in Sonning"

10.0

I stayed here for 2 weeks when I relocated to the area. I was made to feel extremely welcome, everyone remembered my name. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. The restaurant menu is fantastic and the food is truly superb. The service was on point and consistent throughout my stay, the hotel is VERY comfortable. The pics below show the view from my suite. Would definitely recommend.

"Charming Hotel in a Lovely Setting"

8.0

We spent two nights in the French Horn and appreciated the historic charm of the interior as well as the beauty of the garden and its picture-perfect setting on the Thames. We took breakfast in the bar and enjoyed the fresh-squeezed orange juice (the real thing) and many nice choices from the menu, cooked to individual order. The English woman who welcomed us the evening we checked in was congenial and helpful. Unfortunately, she was not on duty on either Sunday or Monday morning; her replacement was less cordial and less inclined to smile. Compared to the excellent bed & breakfast experiences we had in Bath and elsewhere, the tea tray in our room was quite scant in offerings--not a single biscuit. A cautionary note--the hotel is located right on the road at a blind turn; take great care in crossing the street to the parking lot. Apparently the hotel restaurant is excellent for lunch or dinner--winner of many awards--but we had family engagements in the area and were not able to take advantage of that special feature.

The receptionist who is there in the afternoons and evenings is incredibly friendly. The other one, who is there in the mornings, is not, and is unpleasant to deal with.
