On arrival at the hotel there were no available parking spaces, we realise it’s on a first come first served basis, but all spaces were taken by Mini owners & spare spaces were reserved with traffic cones for Mini owners, on a Mini owners function at the hotel. This is particularly unacceptable to reserve spaces when out. Preventing other hotel guest using the car park.
We quickly noticed that several lightbulbs had blown in the hotels main neon sign, the steps, entrance door, plants pots (all dead plants) were all shabby. Front outside swimming pool & outside furniture were disgusting. Although clearly not used in February.
We were greeted in reception, & immediately asked to preorder our evening meal. But not told any details of breakfast times by staff member. We went to our room, 360, via a shabby lift. The room was small, with a sea view from a tiny window, in a little alcove. The room was very poor, wall cracks, peeling paint & rucked up carpet & an older style pocket sprung mattress. The positive points, we had charger points, large mirror, tea/ coffee & kettle.
The room was hot & on opening the window, we found the catch was not fixed correctly. ( only 1 screw holding it on.)
We went to dinner and although several staff were running around, service was very slow. The waitress dropped a plate on our table & laughed. Clearly a nervous laugh. Our Groupon deal included a 3 course meal, I had 4 battered calamari rings, with a side salad, it was poor & consisted of basic bag salad, 1 slice of unripe tomato & 2 slices of cucumber & a tiny disposable pot of thousand island dressing.
My Husband had tomato soup, which was ok with a bread roll.
The 2 cod main courses were acceptable, but served with unacceptable carrots & over boiled Brussel sprouts - a very odd side dish with cod. Followed by “mixed” fruit salad - a small metal bowl of melon pieces only & a sticky toffee pudding. We were told we could not be served drinks at our table, this seemed extremely odd, so we drank the supplied tap water.
On returning to our room we found the shower water pressure to be absolutely dismal, virtually just dripping out & both sink taps were wobbly. We went to bed feeling very disappointed.
During the night I got up for water & both taps were running warm water.
In the morning, we reported the faulty window latch & the lack of water from
the shower. To give them credit, a maintenance man was sent immediately, he fixed the window of sorts & attempted the shower, by replacing the shower head. But this made no difference. Nothing more was done.
Breakfast was acceptable on both mornings, with the usual selection available. All edible, but quickly ran out of bacon & eggs by 9am, & staff very slow to replenish. So we went without. The dining room windowsills & blinds are absolutely filthy.
The whole hotel is very shabby, paint chipped, miss-matched carpets on stairways, seating areas are very poor, dirty chairs & floors, broken artificial plants etc.
During the afternoon we used the spa, ( the pool is in the sister hotel next door) which is also shabby, the lockers in ladies changing room failed to lock. The pool was cold & the tiling & general cleanliness was poor. The sauna used by my Husband was not hot enough. And the shower in the changing area was dangerously hot & uncontrollable.
Once back in the hotel, we used our supplied laminated voucher for tea & cake. There was no cake choice. One type of cake on the bar, containing dried fruit, which I can’t eat. So no cake choice for me. Very poor.
We ordered bar food, which took half an hour for a panini & had to be chased up but was nice once it arrived.
We then went for our prebooked 2 x 25 minute massages, ( included in the Groupon deal) The ladies were called Ella & Michela. And both were very good at their job, and I commented it was one of the best ( firm) massages I’d ever had. And my Husband agreed. It was the best part of the Groupon deal, and the only thing good about the hotel. We’ve had many massages in many hotels & counties to compare it too. So credit where credit is due.
Our 2nd evening meal was just acceptable. A cauliflower soup & a hot smoked salmon starter, but poor salad again, 2 main courses of beef & roast potatoes with Yorkshire pudding , served with cabbage & ( more) cauliflower. A cheesecake & a chocolate brownie. ( we took our own drinks to the table.) But the dining room was very cold.
We once again attempted showering in our room, without much success.
All in all a very disappointing hotel. Probably the worst hotel we’ve stayed in for many years.
Definitely will not return or recommend.
