The Villa Toscana

Peaceful place with a beautiful garden and patio, and a convenient location. Breakfast was included and there were several options to choose from, including waffles that you could prepare yourself.

Bed was not very comfortable: our mattress was lumpy and overall the bed was too narrow for two persons. You couldn't adjust AC in the room, therefore it was freezing cold particularly in the bathroom (when outside temperature was 80-90 F/ 25-30 C) Breakfast didn't have any veggies, berries or fruits (except bananas in some mornings).

I really liked the charm of this unusual hotel, which had the features of a home, with a self-serve breakfast. As the owners note, this venue is not for everyone-- it is NOT like a usual boutique hotel, but is offbeat and pleasant. People who enjoy VRBO and AirBNB will like it. It is a no-frills stay, and in that sense, it provided just what we needed.

The condition of the place was as billed, which meant that some things were not pristine. The lighting in the room was a bit dingy, and the bathroom was serviceable but it would have been great to have newer towels. But one might consider that a tad petty on my part, as the owners are up front about what Villa Toscana offers and does not offer.

Parking was difficult due to an event at Wrigley Field

It is literally a gorgeous cottage in the middle of the city. Beautiful summery exterior and inside really feels like a classic homey bed and breakfast. The bathroom is shared and spacious and kept super clean. I appreciated the free makeup wipes! My friend and I deeply enjoyed the breakfast options. The fridge is well stocked with yummy options and all the breakfast amenities are splendid. Also! The location is super - very accessible to busses & métro :)

Good location to go to Wrigley Field and Lake front. The bed was comfortable.

The door to the room had gaps around the edges, and we could hear everything going on in the hallway. It felt like we had no privacy. The breakfast options were terrible. We ended up having to go out just to get eggs. Also there were people in the courtyard on Saturday evening that made us feel very uncomfortable. Did not feel like we had privacy staying there. Parking was a hassle even though they provided a permit. Still had to search far and wide for a spot, but that might be just typical for Chicago street parking.
