"Anniversary overnight stay"

10.0

We stayed here for our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. From check-in to checkout, the staff were warm, professional, and helpful. The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, with beautiful views of the loch just across from the hotel. The spa facilities were a real highlight—immaculate, relaxing, and run by friendly staff. Dinner in the bar restaurant was a little disappointing, but breakfast the next morning (a full Scottish) was excellent and more than made up for it. Overall, this hotel is outstanding for its location, cleanliness, and fantastic staff. We would happily return and highly recommend it.

"Perfect birthday break"

10.0

Had a wonderful 2 night stay here in August and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. The location is beautiful and our large room was spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. We ate in The Wild Brownie Bar and The Estate Room and both meals were excellent, with the Estate Room being just that extra bit special. I would say the best thing about the hotel was the staff, they were all very friendly and helpful with particular thanks to the young waitresses from Dover and ? Bangor, the new male receptionist and the Head Maitre D’ (apologies for not remembering your names).

"Nearly but not quite"

6.0

On arrival the hotel looks very impressive, unfortunately the experience did not match the first impression. Before check in we had afternoon tea, the only complaint here was that the scones had no butter, jam or cream. We had booked a heritage room with a loch view, which we got but unfortunately the slight niggles continued. We had ordered a bottle of prosecco for the room...it was there but warm. When we called about ice we were told we had to fetch our own from the bar. On doing this we discovered that you couldn't fit the ice and bottle in the same bucket! The bathroom was very tiny, and the space for the toilet was too small for anyone to sit on comfortably (my partner couldn't sit on it at all!) And the shower was disappointing. The bed had a distinct slope to one edge. Food was amazing cannot fault at all, but the wild brownie was over capacity and the staff just seemed to have no real supervision or coordination as to who was serving which area and we were given the wrong bill. Breakfast on our second morning was a shambles, all the hot food ran out and nobody seemed to know who was responsible for refilling it. We had chosen this hotel as it offered a couples massage, unfortunately due to staff illness this got changed to single consecutive massages, when we turned up we were advised that the second therapist was also ill and asked if we would mind postponing to the next day. We agreed but unfortunately this them also got cancelled and so put a dampener on the weekend. The meal on the second night was chaotic again, nobody seemed to know who was taking orders or if orders had been taken. The food was amazing again once it arrived. We did raise these issues on checkout but the desk clerk, whilst apologetic, didn't really seem to know how to deal with the issues. The staff were all lovely and seemed to be working in quite difficult circumstances and whilst apologetic for slow service and the chaos, it felt as though there was nobody with an over view of what was happening and the room was really too small for the number of covers they were serving.

"Birthday Weekend"

8.0

We had noticed this hotel whilst visiting the area and I booked it as a birthday treat for my husband. He had stayed at the nearby youth hostel as a child and had climbed Craig Varr and we wanted to revisit this experience. The hotel's position on the loch side is beautiful and the autumnal weather was very kind with some moody mist and a few showers but also sunny spells. We took our two youngest children with us, age 11 and 13 and we all shared the one room. This worked really well for us. The room was more than spacious enough for our king size bed and two singles for them. The room was stylishly decorated in a contemporary scottish style and I particularly liked the colour scheme. The room was also spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of the loch. The hotel offers plenty of facilities with the pool, spa, gym and lots of watersport options. As we were only there for a couple of days we only used the pool and spent time walking around the area. The girls liked the games room which was well equipped. There is plenty of lounge space inside and ample outside seating if the weather is good. We ate in the bar with the girls on the first night and the food was good with plenty of choice. The second night we opted for the Statesman restaurant which we found was a little of style over substance. The food was ok but not as good as I was hoping for and was expensive. I would stick to the cozy atmosphere of the bar. The breakfast is a typical offering and about standard hotel options. I think this hotel is sitting comfortably up there with good scottish options of view, location, facilities and service but there is always a little room for improvement. What I did notice was that the staff seemed happy and that is always a good sign.
