"Perfectly adequate room for the low price"

8.0

I cannot understand the amount of negative reviews for this Hotel. My visit was due to needing a room quickly due to a cancelled boat due to weather. The Hotel is situated right under the Great Orme next to the pier and although the building, being old looks a little tied in places I found it clean and tidy even though there was a boxing group using the ballroom at the time of our visit. The room was small but not much smaller than a travel lodge room would be, decorated in two shades of blue and white and had a wonderful view of Llandudno bay and seafront. A picture on the wall would have made it more friendly looking but it was perfectly adequate for the price of £63 for the two of us.

"Excellent"

8.0

Major negative ! There were black marks possibly from previous damp penetration on the west facing wall. We had unpacked or I would have refused the room. I cleaned them off myself. When I explained to reception they simply apologised but didn’t see over concerned??? Hotel very run down in need of major refurbishment. Positive. Room was clean apart from DAMP wall. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Entertainment was mediocre . Breakfast was average. The sea view was excellent. Would stay again but would inspect room before occupying. Overall enjoyable stay.

"Oh dear, such a shame."

4.0

Oh dear. Reception was OK, checked in online so the room key was more or less ready for our slightly early arrival. On entering the room, there was a slight smell of cigarettes. The room is very basic but clean. The bathroom the same. Unfortunately, the shower was unusable due to the convex shape of the bath. Plus, the shower gel container was empty. The bedding was clean but unstitched in a few places. Having asked for extra pillows, I was glad because there was a sweaty aroma seeping out of the rock hard pillow so I swapped them around. The bed was lumpy with every spring making itself known. It was a struggle to open the (decidedly dicey) balcony doors. As for the food - canteen/school dinner type buffet. Very little choice. Breakfast menu a challenge with tinned tomatoes, greasy eggs, etc.More like a greasy spoon cafe than a hotel - in fact, although we had paid for breakfast and dinner, we had to eat out. There is, however, an excellent lounge area - but as with the rest of the hotel, it all needs time and money spent in-house. We will leave the evening entertainment well alone - if you like bingo, etc, this is the place for you. Llandudno is a fabulous place, unfortunately, this hotel lets it down. So sad to see such a beautiful building in such a sad state.

Just returned from a few days at the grand . After visiting this hotel many times over the years ,we were pleasantly surprised to see the vast improvement in the decor in the downstairs lounge and dining room recently refurbished , Also new carpets on the landings .We were allocated room 112b recently decorated comfortable bed and fantastic view of the bay from the balcony of our room . The breakfast was quite nice evening meals ok but not much choice . Entertainment very good every night lady singer very enjoyable with a lovely personality , and the 2 shows very good Also. . My wife and I really enjoyed our break and all staff were very nice mannered .Big tip , book a sea view room well worth the extra .

"Beautiful location let down by very poor quality dining"

6.0

Can't fault the location, probably the best in Llandudno. Stunning views across the bay. Located very close to the pier. Grand building, tired. We had a sea view twin room which was basic but okay. Clean, beds comfortable, shower water pressure adequate. No toiletries other than a small bar of soap. Parking on arrival was very difficult, we were very lucky to find a spot. Food is all self service but well below the standard of any hotel I've ever stayed in. The breakfast was okay but regretted taking the option to have the evening meal. I would recommend eating out. The evening entrainment consisted of bingo and a cabaret act which was good and enjoyable. I love these big grand hotel buildings particularly as they offer amazing locations. Such a shame the dining option was so poor.

"Avoid."

2.0

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times, but this my last visit will probably be my last. At the door, smokers congregate, which gives the whole place a rather sleazy look. Although the room had the most magnificent view out to sea, it was cold, with no means of turning on any heating and the duvet was a summer one. There is no art work on the walls, it is drab, but clean. Many of the windows in the hotel are filthy, spoiling those great views. The main selling point of this building, yet they spoil the views with dirty windows! All of this, I could overlook because of that fabulous view from my room, but then it came to the Evening Meal! Laid out like a school canteen there was some cottage pie or processed fish, with sponge and custard as a dessert. I watched people eating this fayre with complete astonishment! Is this what they are used to?! The meal was so poor that I avoided breakfast the next morning, preferring more time in the room, which has to be vacated by 10.00 am. 'Home Cooking' just around the corner provides delicious food and their freshly cooked breakfasts are second to none. Parking cost £9.00 for twenty four hours. I sent them a card in advance with the preference for a room. They never acknowledged this, which Premier Inn always does. This was clearly a fine Hotel in its heyday, which now is over and gone for ever.

"great night away booked again"

10.0

we booked here for a night away my wife and 14yr old son, we love llandudno and have been many times and obviously this is a landmark hotel on the bay so was eager to try it, we knew it was a brittania and they seem to buy historic hotels and keep them going but dont really seem to invest in them but just wanted to experience.. the grand. got there at 2pm just thought id try and check in receptionist said check in was 3 as in its standard didnt check to see if room was ready, left bags in quiet room which is not secure for bags to left in my opinion near reception and went for an explore, got back at about 6pm and checked in fine staying in room 304 room was as i expected all old fittings and fixtures removed and basically botched up fixes, i wish they would keep some original features of the rooms instead of ripping them out, but room was perfectly adequate for us. balconies in rooms are all out of use and are heavily painted shut, no windows to open either, spend the money and get the balconies replaced and charge more for the rooms there is probably nowhere else with a better view of the bay and pier than here nightime entertainment was good didnt see the bingo but the singers were good and it was a good atmosphere. didnt eat here so cant comment would we go again yes and are looking to do so
